I get it, it was effective in order to reach and influence as many people as possible, but the idol concert completely killed the mood the series set in the previous episodes. With Doroka also acting as comic relief, it feels like I'm watching a different anime.

I would say the story plot is too controversial. Introducing comedy and silliness breaks up the sorrowful atmosphere. The process of execution is important.

The other end of spectrum are easy going anime from beginning to end.

The fans of Muv Luv Alternative complained that the anime was not doing its justice. The original story was about a desperate and hopeless world, while inserting some romantic comedy. The people of the world were somewhat zealot and insane. The anime adaption was not popular.

Titan is said to be influenced by Muv Luv Aternative, but anime is popular. Audience like its anime adaption.

It was trashy, but it was edgy trash.
But then all of a sudden, it started adding comedy and being utterly stupid and it was just... WTF? I guess the author used up his edgy fuel mid-way and regained some of his sanity. You know, some people have that edgy phase in their life? That explains the tone shift.
Personally, I just turned away from the screen when the idol concert started. Too stupid to bother looking at.

This is why I say the show is not going to work without the prequel.
This is the part where the long time fans broke down and realized they made the mistake back on the poll that determines the ending of the prequel. (Where the fans choose True End over Good End.)
The fans most certainly didn't expect Dorothea to become this messed up. She ended up far far worse than her mother.

Yo script writer, could you go like 4 episodes without killing the poor girl? Like, damn...

So there are hints that Doroka might be related in some ways to Dorothea, which might make her more relevant...assuming she's going to survive the next episode.

She already "died" twice this season. And they end almost every episode with cliffhanger that ends up not as expected.

Author remembered this started as an edgy and dark series and made Doroka blind and scarred. Is she going to stay this way?
On the plus side, she's losing some of her naivety and is aligning more with Adonis' values. Combined with the fact that he's now under her love spell, there might be so,e drastic change in their dynamics...that we won't get to see since the anime is ending, unless we get a second season.

This was mostly edgy shlock. The plot was basically indulging the MC's motive and barely made sense with the queen being the apparent big bad. The gag humor in the 2nd half helped a bit.

So Doroka is actually useful with her magic that is not only mind control but also an all around buff for Adonis. I wonder if him being subject to her love magic will become a plot point in making him immune to Dorothea.
Between Doroka being less naive, Adonis feeling guilty for her blindness and the two having learned to work together, it's easier to accept that they keep traveling together and will probably become a couple at some point.
