Ok that was a decent episode but I feel like it was too much hype for something that wasn't impressive.
Animation was surprisingly good, the backgrounds are amazing, the character designs are good too especially the ones of the girls. The music when the battle at the end of the episode started added a nice touch to this episode. As for the characters, nothing outstanding. The MC was so annoying the entire episode and uninteresting, not like the girls who literally showed the opposite. I'll keep watching this because is much better than a lot of series coming this season, also seems interesting. |

Well, impressive first episode. I liked it quite a bit. Outstanding visuals and character designs as much as the kabane, and also a rather bunch of different character designs that makes it already far above your average series. Props to the girls desings that make a good contrast to the overall bleak world.
The music is clearly from Sawano, didn't have to check, I was wondering in the first half, but I could tell right away when the battle reached its peak The MC seems to be luckily balanced enough, not exactly what I would like, but likable enough, and not an annoying one. Considering some similarities with AoT glad not any Eren or Armin are on sight! Mumei on the other hand already won me over. The episode did a great job meshing up world building with the fast pace. I dare say best premiere until now, but I'm moderately sure it won't be surpassed, not easily. But if it should happen I'd be quite glad.

I might just have to call the MC "Ushio" until I stop hearing his voice . Kind of awkward using the same voice for two main characters in the same season.
Not a bad start at all. But yeah, Ushio was pretty good in this one. I respect the guy at least trying to find a solution. Though in reality it's still a tough situation. One gun isn't going to make much of a difference. Until they can mass produce that thing and avoid the likely pig-heated idiocy that the bushi likely have. A remarkable amount of arrogance from people who don't have actual weapons that can kill the zombies. Who are they protecting? They are literally useless. Having these guys secure the trains are probably more harmful and risking infection than just making sure no one stands near a window. Mumei was awesome though. A very badass character though with some quirks to her .

Episode 1:
That was interesting. Felt like a lot happened for the first episode but well executed in terms of technical visuals and soundtrack. I hope we find out more about Ikuma soon. He's got some intelligence as well while the show itself seems to focus on the whole humanity trying to survive against those zombie-like monsters (Kabanes) in their world. The technological aspect of the show also seems decent with steampunk themes. Action is fairly good and I hope it maintains good world building merits. So far, quite interested to see where this show goes. The theme song is pretty good along with the OST.
