Yes, once the current gaiden books are finished, there's a 2nd season coming.

To be honest, they can fit the entire first season of the novels in 24-26 episodes with minor omissions.
They could do the Gaidens in OVAs, and kick start 2nd season once the novels come out for it.

Kind of wish they'd go with the manga designs, but it's VERY likely they'll go with the LN rewrites for the basis.

I don't mind the LN designs that much, but I really hope they go with the manga look for the Empire side. Because the manga artist has the Roman look down PERFECT.
The LN version of the prince is a long hair bishi. UGH. No. The manga's perfect Roman physique is what we need for him.

Not to derail the conversation here, but does anyone else feel as though this song represents this series well, or is it just me?

Spoiler for If you're turned off by the grammar inside the song, I apologize, they're Swedish.:

I mean, I get the whole Japan could easily take this world over and go back to the Imperial days of isolating themselves from the rest of the Earth and all that, but in another way, they're kinda ironically liberating the new world by making them more modern and giving them modern ideals along with defeating the empire... (So long as they don't go down the whole 'White Man' way with OUR New World)

I suspect there is a lot of Sabaton that could go very well with Gate. If you wanted to be more tongue in cheek, or instance, you could blare "Panzer Battalion" while they mow down the hordes of the Imperial Army.

I fact, as per a power metal opening- not sure how this would work, some sort of collab between Sabaton (write about modern warfare) and Blind Guardian (write about high fantasy). That's basically Gate in a nutshell.

No info yet on the page, just that it's a TV series airing in 2015.
No staff, animation studio, cast, etc yet.

The light novel artist clearly has no idea what ROME is supposed to look like.

To clarify, "light novel" version of Gate is NOT the original.
The first edition novels were huge, had a more traditional fantasy look to it, and the Empire was correctly drawn as Romans with togas and whatnot.
The manga adaptation is faithful to the design of the original novel.

The "light novel" edition splits the 5 volumes of novel into ten books, and has a more modern anime-ish look to it, and the artist isn't very good to be honest.

Let's hope the anime creative staff will go with the original novel (and the manga) and stick to what was described in the text - not the reimagined look by the LN artist.

If you read the provided synopsis above, you'd think it'd all be about the adventures of a small recon group, which would be somewhat correct at points. However, it misses out the fact that the story is actually quite epic.
