I am wondering how this will be dealt with if true. The story is fairly dark featuring quite a bit of rape and slavery. I suppose most of it could be avoided if it only kept the perspective of the protagonist. It can't really soften any of the material either without giving up part of that gritty reality that would separate it from the likes of Outbreak Company.

Obviously the best way to deal with it is to keep it as close to the tone of the manga as possible. As for differentiating it from Outbreak Company, I think the fact that they are literally crushing the fantasy world under tank treads rather than trying to spread moe to it should be very obvious! As for the dark tones, I think the most important thing here is to choose the right staff and studio- Madhouse would probably be a good choice given their past work with things like Black Lagoon etc.

Maybe they'll run it straight and unapologetically? While I don't approve of some, it's better to leave the author's intent intact and let the audience judge the work (and the author) itself.
If it turns people away, then it deserves to lose people. The author deserves his right to speak his intents, the audience has the right to judge him on those. Censoring people can lead to an echo chamber, and speaking unpopular ideas either demonstrates their worth or follies. /idealism off Other anime/manga works have had bigger shitstorms over much less inflammatory reasons. Add to the fact that the final goal of sponsoring an anime is usually for money means that it's quite likely to undergo "adjustments" for the sake of political correctness and sales. Hell, Attack on Titan got snubbed a bit by Koreans because the characters were a bit proud of being in the military defending against essentially gigantic zombies. And that's with the walled cities being nowhere near being an allegory for Japan. EDIT: Oh, he was asked to tone it down? Now it's 100% sure details will be changed. Not like it matters though, most of Eastern Asia will still throw a fuss about portraying the JSDF in a good light. The countries of Asia have long memories, not to mention anti-Japan rhetoric is useful as a rallying point. Can't blame Asia though, those were some bastardly actions back in WW2. |

Can't say I wasn't expecting this to happen at some point. And since it already ended, there's even a pretty good chance of it being fully adapted.
IMO they could cut it out or like how the manga is doing it, twist it into a bias against governments and authority in general. |

Premise sounds like a darker version of Outbreak Company and I've heard some good things about this. Also it seems whoever registered the domain has to be Warner Bros, the producers behind the Jojo anime and Strike the Blood.

Most of the right-wing stuff was obfuscated in the manga, but the novel WAS pretty bad about it. See Aohige's commentary on it -- there was quite a bit of jingoism going around.
That said, we don't even know if it IS the JSSDF Gate. It might be something else entirely.

Is this the commentary Aohige made? http://forums.animesuki.com/showthre...t=JSDF&page=42
Or is there another post that has some examples of the changes? I'm curious to some examples. Further Googling for examples hasn't led me to discrete examples, just people (very) consistently saying it's right wing. I want to see how bad it is so I can either laugh or cry depending on the severity. |

The only problem with labeling something Left Wing or Right Wing is that its subjective to stance of the person making the observation. What is to the Left of that person may be to the Right of another.

You'll have to track down the web version (which may need some archive research up to four years), but if you're familiar with the YAMATO DAMASHII style in the MuvLuv series, you'll find that it's... familiar. Real manifest destiny, jingoist style of prose. It would be reeeeeeally hard to mistake it as something from a Leftist.
