THE Communist Party of Ukraine (KPU) was permanently banned today after a Lviv court ruling which turned over all its assets, including party buildings and funds, to the state.
Quote:
A list of others including the Opposition Platform – For Life party, Left Opposition, Union of Left Forces, Socialist Party of Ukraine and other left-wing organisations have also been prohibited.

This followed a decree signed by Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky outlawing all political parties deemed to be “pro-Russian” on May 14.

No far-right or neonazi organisations have been placed under similar restrictions despite responsibility for a string of atrocities and alleged war crimes in eastern Ukraine.
Apparently communism = bad because Russia is bad. This is clearly a far-right movement to abolish leftist thought and strip left-wing organizations of power, and they're taking advantage of the war situation in order to rally support.

I'll be honest with you, tankies are terrible people, and this year really showed how horrible they are

but Russia hasn't been communist for decades

So yes, this is a political purge. Same thing happened in Indonesia decades ago.
They went after everyone even mildly suspected to be "communist" after a failed coup.
Many were murdered, and many had to flee the country.

FYI, Opposition Platform – For Life for is a centrist party.

AFAIK, the banned parties do support the Russian incursion one way or another.

PS - Morning Star is a leftist paper. I'd look for other sources that aren't overtly leftist/rightist.

PPS - Please people. Don't be a communist apologist. Bad things have happened in Ukraine when they were part of the USSR like the Holodomor.

“One way or another” will catch a lot of unrelated people in the crossfire

In the US we had Japanese internment camps and MCCarthyism following WW2

If you want to make comparisons, this is more akin to what happened after WWII in europe, where nazi germany collaborators in countries that were invaded were not seen positively, no matter their political affiliations. I am not sure but I think the same happened in Korea.

The thing is, if Ukraine wants to join the EU, they will have to probe they are a democracy, so if any left-leaning parties (that oppose anything russia related) are created later on, they should be accepted. But if any new party claims that being pro-russian is part of their political agenda, I can see them whacked again and again, if not put to jail definitively.

That's just how it goes when you're at war. I'm hopeful that the support Ukraine is getting will tilt them more towards European solidarity than far-right nationalism.

Interesting article on how anti-Russian resistance is growing in the occupied cities/towns, including Crimea.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong gave a 2022 National Day Message. He shared concerns that the tensions in Ukraine is affecting Singapore, especially given that it doesn't have a lot of natural resources.

PS - I've been monitoring Asians who wish to join the legion. And yes, I've heard chatter from Singapore...

Ukrainian forces targeted one of Wagner Group's bases in the east thanks to Sergei Sreda posting on his Telegram account on its location in Popasna.

Basically, another failure in OPSEC on pro-Russian journalists.

Anyone have thoughts on Darya Dugina
Botched job or false flag to boost recruitment?

I'm tempted to say false flag, but does anyone really care enough about her in Russia?

Not enough information. The story of the Ukrainian mom from Mariupol driving to Moscow and doing a terrorism is probably made up. It's more likely that some criminal element in Russia was blackmailing Dugin and threatened to blow up his daughter. And then they actually did it.

Well, the man advocated for a regime change in Russia the day before his daughter was offed, arguing that it wouldn't probably last six months and it just wasn't doing enough for the war effort - sorry, the "speshul" operation. Granted, the article I linked to was probably written some time before the event, but...still...

"The desperate resistance of Kiev's Atlanto-Nazi regime requires Russia to make substantial — drastic — internal changes. Structural, ideological, personnel, institutional, strategic."

"Let the old regime bury its dead. A new Russian time is coming. Relentlessly."

Of course, he's not citing Putin directly, but "personnel change" obviously leaves the door open for that. Or for people close to him. Either way, it's not exactly something you want to say out loud even if you religiously follow the party line ("Kyivem Delenda Est!") - it's bound to raise the wrong eyebrows in Moscow.

But...regardless of who did it, the FSB is definitely milking the fallout for all it's worth. Ultranationalists seldom complain about bagging themselves new high-profile martyrs.

Dammit. Why is this reminding me of Modern Warfare?

IMO if this assassination was not rubber-stamped from the Kremlin, then there will be more targeting the "news" people that keep many russians convinced of the righteousness of this specially brutal operaration.

There is also the possibility (besides being an operation from the Kremlin or Kiev) that some people in the oligarchy and/or the intelligence community are behind, wanting to accelerate regime change.

Because one thing is clear to me. if nothing is done, Vlad the imbecile will rule for life, just like Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez did; neither was specially brilliant, but once you prune all opposition, there is little desire by most people to do a revolt. But if little by little it becomes clear that the regime is not indestructible, voices might start to rise in volune. Wasn't this the plot for the V for Vendetta movie?

Revolt? Last time I checked 2/3 of Russia supports the war.

Have you seen what Russian news is like. It's like Fox News on all channels.
Expect a significant amount of the population to behave as you'd expect them to.
