Can I just point out that, between the "zan'nen"s and her objections to Nako calling her "omae" all the time, Honshou is just "Stuff that doesn't translate well: The Character"? Like, by English standards, the instances she objects to Nako not using her name more often than not don't feel like cases where it would be reasonable to expect her name to be said in the first place.
...Which is, in and of itself, rather appropriately unfortunate.

Nako is a very good friend. This has been obvious from the beginning of the manga, but the anime did a great job showing it this episode. And finally one of my favorite bocchi jokes (Bocchi sending her "dying" messages) was animated! The delivery came out differently thanks to the music and Bocchi's VA, but it actually ended up being funnier, so all's well. Also, am I the only one who expected Bocchi's "serious" outfit to be green?

Blonde girl's turn this time. As expected, Bocchi ended up getting a new fr- apprentice?! To be honest, I didn't find the gag very funny. Highlight of the episode for me was the wind blowing a plastic bag in Aru's face. So unfortunate.

Bocchi likes to make friends with girls bigger than her. This time she get's casually lifted with ease. So the group now is one very shy person, a fake delinquent, an unfortunate person, and a foreigner obsessed with ninjas. Bocchi gathered some interesting people. I wonder what that other girl is that she has not yet befriended? looking forward to next week

I will say Sotoka is my least favorite of the core friends thus far. The gimmick of the foreigner who moved to Japan to find ninjas just didn't grab me like she grabbed Bocchi. This also shows how ridiculously high the hurdle Kai set is. She's got to make friends with absolute weirdos.
On the positive side Aru and Nako are so fun that they can carry episodes that they aren't even really focused in. Best part of the episode really was that plastic bag scene. Aru truly has a gift .

Only now I realize Aru, or rather, her reactions, remind me of another girl, a very normal girl.
Highlights are definitely Aru meeting the bag and Bocchi hitting Nako's sweet spot. Have to say, it's kind of weird hearing Sotoka speak in third person, or sound so soft. Always imagined her sounding more like Karen. |

If nothing else I'd say Aru has been rather successful in her mission. She's got popularity and is considered incredibly reliable. There's such trust that even when she slips up it will be interpreted in the best possible light. And that is a reflection of her intense efforts. It is fine for Aru to be herself, but she wants to put in the work for her goal and I'm glad it is paying off for her.
That tennis portion though...Once the song kicked in it was incredibly painful to watch the Aru-Aru Beam in action .

That was the funniest episode so far. I already liked Aru, but I like her even more after this. She's even got her own theme song! They call her unfortunate, but she is actually pretty lucky for being able to maintain her facade given how much she screws up. I can't believe going to school dressed as an elementary schooler ended up working out.
My favorite bit was her retort in English when the teacher told her she read the wrong page. Her tone and expression were just perfect.

Fight on, Aru!
Shine on, Aru! Still can't believe it was made into a full, but it was awesome, and so was the rest of the episode. Seriously, don't remember the last time I laughed so much, and I had actually read the manga before. Speaking of, this episode had some serious chapter hopping; Aru's second wardrobe malfunction happens in a different chapter in the manga, and pretty sure Bocchi doesn't find out about her "substitution technique" until an even later chapter (though I vastly prefer her coming clean immediaely), and the tennis match doesn't happen until the second half of the manga (so far). Not complaining, though, since it gaves basically an all-star Aru moments episode, and it was excellent. Sadly, next episode will not be a crossover with senryu shoujo. GODDAMN! Yeah, the voice acting helped that moment tremendously. |

An unfortunate episode. Laughed so hard when Aru said "I'm finally finished". Headbutt while wearing an elementary school hat. I guess Nako throwing the ball into Aru's head is payback for all those headbutts. hahaha
