the situation kinda reminds me of pearl harbor
Japan attacked the US so it had more bargaining leverage on the tables
it did not intend to enter a full blown war with the US. Of course that turned out not to be the case.

likewise, Llyold's goal was to give Windermere an advantage on the bargaining table
but it seems Keith is drunk on war, revenge? and glory

It can’t treat one group differently from another.” Malcolm Gladwell

IMO, Keith is just angry about what happened years ago (probably Morris died in a messy way, among other stuff), and doesn't care about any Protoculture propaganda. He's practical, he wants his enemies out of the cluster or dead so what happened to them won't repeat itself, and he doesn't mind dying to accomplish this. He has little regard for other people's lives because he doesn't mind to die either. That's kind of a theme with Freyja too: he probably flies as if he was staking his life every time. Just as Heinz or Freyja now sings. Personally, I see Keith turning around more than Roid, who is convinced he's right (and because of anime cliche ugh). Keith's acting on irrational emotion and emotions change. While Roid is acting rationally and that's more difficult to shift. He also vaguely remembered his goal is to protect Heinz. The 'triangle' of Keith-Heinz-Roid is said to have a crucial importance in the story, iirc.

And after how he reacted to Messer's death and how Hayate "usurped" his VF, I can't see him as racist either. He hates the NUN and those with Earth affiliations for what they did to Windermere, but he doesn't seem to hate humans. He even threatened Bogue for thinking he would measure up Messer (honestly, if circumstances had been different: no war, etc. Keith would have probably liked to be his friend). So I don't think he actually believes that Windermere are master race superior to other species when he puts down one of his own men for Messer on terms of skill. His main problem is that he's blinded by revenge and feels pressured to do what he can before he dies.
