I am terribly bad at philosophy of any kind but I really want to understand this: A third person perspective IS a neutral one already, isn't it? So how is that "your perspective v. a neutral perspective" different than "your life experince v. a third person perspective?"

The problem lies within the term "life experience", not with neutral perspective/third-person view (there's no argument on their equality). Simply put, viewing your life from a third person perspective is not at odds with life experience; living this way is also a legitimate form of experiencing your life. So the two shouldn't be against each other in this type of versus relationship.
For a more detailed explanation, see this post and this post.
