Good things come in small packages? Looks really nice Riker.
Ok, my Final Entry....sorta. One of these two will be entered but I can't decide. Static? Or animated? I'm leaning towards the animated version, but was wondering what others thought.

I guess this will be my final entry. I changed the background. This one might still not fit the mood, but when I try to do bright or colourful backgrounds, they seem too distracting, so I'm not sure what to do. ^^;; Solace - I like the static one better, but I couldn't tell the other one was animated at first.

The quality loss between the static and animated isn't noticable at all, at least on my screen. I'm not sure how much effort went into the animation but I'd imagine there was a fair bit. It's very subtle; I didn't notice it at first. However it is a nice touch, and I think it's smooth enough as it is now (KiNa's suggestion to add more frames would be possible but I probably wouldn't be able to see the difference). You might as well use it since you put the time into it. If people don't notice the animation it won't be any different than if you went with the static one, but if they do...
I'd mark my entry in this post but ImageShack doesn't seem to be working? I'll probably end up PMing it to Solace again. Not pleased with it, because I was unable to leverage my HCG archives. This is the first time in years that I had to go to non-HCG sources for content. It's a break from what I became used to, but I can appreciate the contest for that. Breaking us out of our habits and making us try new things is better for skill improvement overall.

Wow. Didn't think the suggestions would be so split!
As far as image quality goes, blame the limited color palette of the gif format. The render and text seem to come out relatively intact, but the bg suffers because of the large amount of gradients. Still, it seems most people have a difficult time telling the difference at a glance which is good. As far as making the smoke more subtle, pretty much everyone has stated that it's already very subtle and that it takes them a moment to realize that it's actually animated. That's also good because it's the effect I wanted. She's not holding a torch, just a small cigarette. Believe it or not, there's 20 frames of animation for the effect, which makes the small file size even more boggling. I think I'll make it official and enter the animated version as my Final Entry.
