Code Geass (first season) Overall Series Impressions & Total Series Rating
This thread is to be used for discussing the first series (of 25 episodes) of Code Geass ... your thoughts about the show, overall impressions, speculation on the second season, etc., etc…
A few subjects you might want to ramble on about:
The poll represents your total series rating. In other words, how you would rate all the episodes combined (1-10)? If you'd rather rate the whole series by technical/artistic merits, you can do so. An example: Animation Quality: 1-10 Voice Actors: 1-10 Music: 1-10 Script: 1-10 Editing: 1-10 Average = Total Series Rating Or a combination of the two. Or your general gut feeling. |

This series without a doubt gets a 10 and goes down as one of my all time favorites, even though its probably only 1/2way over. That's not to say there aren't any flaws with it. A couple of drops in animation such as when Lelouch came back to Nunnaly in 21 her face looked like a card board cut out, and other things like the music played during Todou's rescue, Black Knights uniforms, Lelouch's knightmare up until Gawain.
Minor things that don't warrant even taking away a decimal point from how much I enjoyed this series. |

Animation Quality - 7 (Zegapain is an example of what I believe is a 9-10)
Voice Actors - N/A (Voice acting is not such a big deal for me, unless the actor's voice to their character's profile is noticeably different) Music - 8 (Not too shabby) Scripting - 8 (Perfect 10 for innovative characterization, but points off because of some plot/direction issues) Editing - N/A (Don't know what to say about this) |

Overall I think is an excellent title, mainly to my liking because of the plot. The one "detail" though which I can complain about it is the "joke" that Lelouch uses on Euphemia when accidentally uses his Geass, provoking the mass killing...
LOL I expected anything on that episode, but THAT? Oh well, at least it caused the major uproar we see in the final episodes. |

well... let's see..... The show is pretty much AWESOME in everyway, although there can be improvement in certain area especially if they kill certain characters.
Animation: top natch and it is consistence as well. You can hardly notice the change in animator in each episodes. Quality Control is amazing. There are no recycle shots leave aside the recap and intro. The movement is smooth both in and out of fight. Character: Clamp really did it this time. The characters are awesome. Their color scheme, background and clothing are interestingly well thought-out. There are some weird fashion in there, but it went well with the CLAMP character's style. Plot: This is the best part of the show. It is whats make this show sucessful. The plot is original and it moves at a neck break pace while leaving mystery for viewers to solve. awesome.. awesome awesome.. Sound: The sound is great as well, this anime has a full set of experienced Voice Actor and they know how to make their voice work with the characters well. Yukana also serves as narrator and CC, one of the best I heard so far. Background voice and music are just above average, you get tired of them after a while but they are still good. I didn't quite like the OP... you guys should really check out the MAD, they did better jobs on those. Enjoyment: Code Geass is a very interesint and enjoyable anime. The plot and twist are awesome and I like almost every part of this show. If they can get rid of some annoying characters like Sh***** and some non-sense part of K*****, this anime would even be better. The S1 ending also leave a very frustrating conclusions, well its their "just as planned" that we have to deal with. Over all Score: 9.8/10 One of the highest I ever gave out. |

I gave this show 10 out of 10, and thus it is the second show ever to manage to get labeled as a masterpiece in my book. It sports the perfect balance between love, loyalty, politics, friendship and ideals. The action is good, the music is good, the characters are great, and the story is really great. In my opinion, there's not much to dislike. I can honestly say that I've never been looking forward to a sequel more than I'm looking forward to "Geass 2".
(Oh, and if someone wondered what the other show managing to get a masterpiece-rating from me is... it's Air. ^^

Well... I liked it, but since thats never all that counts:
Animation Quality - 10 - Character Design - 10 - Even with some stock and recycle, the show was beautiful and CLAMP outdid themselves in many ways with their character designs. Hey we even had a thing that I still question was human or not (Nina). Voice Actors - 9 - I thought they all fit quite well with their character. Lloyd, Lelouch, and Kallen come to mind off the top of my head. Music - 9 Plot - 9 - Good story with, at times, a little too much plot device but not enough to warrant a bad rating. Editing - 8 |

The voice acting in Code Geass is superb, they managed to capture each character very well. The character design was also excellent, especially Lelouch's and C.C's. They're really what kept the show interesting from my perspective. On that note, I think the story was well thought out as well, but it was overshadowed by the character development, that's really what kept me watching. The music, though I loved "Colors", was nothing out of the ordinary, but it got the job done.
All in all, I enjoyed Code Geass very much, and I'm looking forward to the next season. 8/10

Animation Quality: 9.5
Some minor gripes but nothing serious... Love the character and mecha design too even though sutherlands are a bit fugly. Voice Actors: 10 Awesome, lelouch's voice actor is awesome and i didnt find one character whose voice got on my nerves. Music: 9.5 I love the ost, especially zero's theme. The jazzy style just does me in. Although many people had complaints with the second opening theme, i think the lyrics fit in with the shows overall message and i came to like it with time. Script: 10 I love cliffhangers, as long as i know im gonna get to see the end, even if it takes time. Editing: 9.5 Switching between zero's speech and suzaku and euphie in 23 did it in for me, editing is top notch. Of course there have been other notable instances of superb editing... overall:10 currently my favorite series... good job sunrise, you damn money goblins. |
