Looking for very good 26 episode animes
I am looking for animes which are already finished. Please list only anime, which have only ONE storyline, which is told from episode to episode. I don't like animes very much, where each episode has it's own little story. I want an anime where all episodes are based of the episodes before. You know what i mean? Just like Berserk for example. Even though that anime is just a fraction of the manga and has a weird ending for non readers, it is one of the most epic and best anime out there ( for me)..Just because of it's great storytelling and development.
I also prefer mature characterdesigns, but if you know one, which doesn't fit this criteria it's ok. Name it Story has to be very good, with likeable characters. Genre is not so important (but it shouldn't be unrealistically melancholic, just to create a dark athosmphere. That sucks^^) Just name me, what you personally find great and fits into the description. Thanks for the help. |

Trigun - one of my favorites (there are a some episodic elements through part of this one, as well as Noir, but there is a clear sequence of events and development throughout)
Noir - best of the girls-with-guns genre Kurau Phantom Memory - nice sci-fi action/drama Uchuu no Stellvia - don't really remember all that much besides really liking it, along with the kawaii crying animation for the girls Last Exile - rather good Simoun - Last Exile with lesbians R.O.D - the TV - good, with great animation, but gets a bit weird towards the end |

Just kiddin'. No specific genre at all? Oh well. At the moment, the only title that I could think of is The Vision of Escaflowne, 26 episodes of seamless and epic storytelling. I'll edit this post later if I remember any other series which fits your description.

24 episodes seems to be a common number these days as well, like these excellent series:
NHK ni Youkoso Noein Ergo Proxy (23 episodes for some reason) Some series of this length consist of multiple, shorter-length story arcs like Black Lagoon (Season 1+S2=24 episodes) Ghost Hunt School Rumble (especially S1) I don't know if they would qualify. Is there a reason to stop at 26? If not, I'd also recommend Saiunkoku Monogatari which just completed its first season of 39 episodes. Beyond that we have shows like Monster and Hikaru no Go with over 70 episodes, or Junni Kokki with 45 (though the last arc ends abruptly because the author of the novels on which the show is based became ill). Noein and Hikaru no Go have middle-schoolers and adults in the cast; School Rumble takes place in a high school. The other shows generally have adult protagonists.

Tenkuu No Escaflowne is good. It cuts straight to the point, has excellent character, awesome music and will actually make you think about what you are seeing, pondering the actions of the characters and the dangers of technology.

^ agree... one of the best one IMO...
adding... Samurai 7 ~ 7 samurai's rescuing a village etc... Samurai Champloo ~ nice one either and it rocks... If it is ok for 26+ I recommend Full Metal Alchemist and Hajime no Ippo ~ both have a nice plot and char. development IMO... and BTW also second Last Exile...
