I'll give the show some credit. It did make me feel bad for this guy even before people were trying to kill him . What a smothering existence and can't say I love his mother's approach either. Crush his youth with lessons for the sake of his future. Sure he'll have some things he can use in the future (although honestly he'll likely forget most of what was crammed into his skull) but he'll also have life-long resentment.
And it all combines with the classic "let's not tell the guy anything about his family or the risks to his life." Setting up plenty of chances for him to get frustrated, act out, and get himself killed. Normally you could say it is due to letting the person live a normal life before things get crazy on them. But he's not really even living a life anyways.

And why are they hiding that he is probably the heir to the other ninja village as well? Blanked out face of his father and the bad guys only have an "acting chief". |

The only I can think for the mother to not tell him it's because she was waiting to him to be more older, he is still in middle school and since he was attacked then she had to tell him sooner.
this was more or less... I don't like the ninja outfits. |

Hi-tech ninjas. I knew the girlfriend was fishy, but did not expect what was under the bed
First episode was interesting. I somewhat like the animation, which feels different from other series. At least the setup to his abilities is explainable, and not suddenly gain athletic abilities out of nowhere.

Great, yet another story where the family doesn't tell the MC how important he is and don't even try to teach him sooner how to properly defend himself (didn't he mention how he has some sort of martial arts training that he goes to?) and just wait until the first time he is attacked to do anything about it and then send him to train with people who have being doing it their wholes lives just so he can show how super special he is by surpassing them with barely any training by comparison.
Totally haven't seen this before or anything like that. Thing is that you can't even defend this by saying "but she just wanted him to have a normal life" because we are shown how restrictive and controlling she is of his life. You would think that a prestigious family would want to prepare their next head for the future, which could be done while having him live a modest life in hiding, this way he would not be so confused and out of the loop and would be able to follow the orders of the ones protecting him better, heck, he eould even be able to defend himself and keep himself alive if need be, but no, everyone needs to be stupid so the plot can happen. Also, fuck childhood friends like that girl, she knows he doesn't know anything about his origin and that her being given orders to look after him are not his doing, yet she still treats him like crap... at that point just don't do it if it's such a bother or take it out on the proper people. Tsunderes like her are the worst, I would hope for her attitude to change due to it being a cover and that she is actually really nice... but I have no hope since I know that the trope is for her to keep being a sourpuss until the MC saves her or something and she falls for him due to suspension bridge effect. The only good thing so far was the one cool ninja dude that is there to die being cool for the sake of the MC getting a power up. ... oh yeah, ninjas using advanced technology would be really cool if said tech and suits didn't look so basic. So far not impressed, two more episodes to go... I will call them the basic bitch ninjas until proven otherwise.

First of all she's kuudere not tsundere. Second She did nothing wrong yet. Sure she did nothing right either (their interaction was basically non-existent). Either way I don't see where this "treated like crap" came from
Anyway one thing is clear, that Iga weren't after his life.

Holy shit this is so bad. The first anime in the season that actually made me mad. WHY did they hide this whole stuff from the mc? There's literally no point, they can't even blame it on him being too young, cause the masked girl seems to be in the same age, but still knows everything. They would've saved themselves from all this trouble by simply just doing what's logical and telling the guy who he is. I can't stand how insanely dumb this story is, and Ittoki being a whiny loser doesn't help either. But the worst thing is that silly high-tech ninja clothes they wear, with the painfully cringe-looking headgear thing. At least the masked girl looks cute, but it's pretty obvious that she's just the morose, taciturn superninja who's secretly in love with the loser mc archetype. Will give it another chance because I'm generous, but honestly I shouldn't, this is a trash.

So ignoring the stupid premise (I gave up on that one), the directing is terrible. There are lots of minor details that are slightly wrong and it comes out bad. I won't go through everything, but right the first scene (shaky cam, blinking) was nausea-inducing and the confession had hurricane-level winds in the background judging by the number of flying leaves. Also overall there is a big tendency to go over the top with everything. The whole assassination attempt was overcomplicated and the scenes were wrong. Why exploding (shurikens?) for the tires? Do normal ones with puffing tires and exploding car. Also, the "fake killing of the policeman" was absolutely stupid. If he is with you why did he not just stab Ittoki himself instead when he was so vulnerable? And OST handling is also terrible. There is mostly no background music, but if there is it is too loud and overhyping all the scenes, not just the tensest parts.
The worst thing is, that the basics are decent. The voice acting is pretty good and the animation itself is also not bad, but because of all the other problems, the whole package is trash. Giving it one more episode (3), but will most likely drop it. |

The second episode was worse than the first. I don't see any reason to continue this.
If it was consistent with anything I might try to trudge through it, but it feels too exhausting to even merit a hate-watch. I had hopes for it from the trailer, but no thank you, I've had enough. |
