I like this premiere very much, it's funny, it's fairly enjoyable even if hard to comprehend much at time, and the plane action is at least palatable. The early serious military intro sold me in into watching a cool story about four Valkyries fighting against Pillars that look unique in their design with various themes to match their places of location they're in. However the episode itself also bought a number of things I wasn't expecting, namely Odin being portrayed as an eternal shota god and we got another Shinigami cool beauty in the making. I like the main cast but especially Miyako and I wasn't expecting Azuzu to be such an adorable dork that make me want to protect her while teaching her to be less clumsy. Sonoka shows some promise, as I really like her for her sweet kindness with slightly fiery endeavor. As for Claudia, there isn't much anything that entices me to be my favorite but she did a pretty okay introduction.

The opening points me that it just won't be too dark though and I'm curious to see the two other girls that will show up later. Needless to say, I'm very satisfied with what I saw from the first episode and I just want to see our precious Valkyries evolve their dynamic together while enduring so many darkness they await in the middle of the tunnel they fly over.

Not bad... I guess? Anime with dog fights should be automaticaly interesting, but honestly at least for now I am unimpressed by characters and story.

Again, it has dog fights so i will try more episodes.

It was nice to see the piller copy fate's archer though...

The guy commanding them in Japan is pretty much how I imagine the Admiral in Kancolle btw

I was pretty unimpressed by PVs but the first ep was actually pretty good. Decent mix of action, comedy and drama. Not sure if studdio can keep the production values but ity is definetely my cup of tea.

Additional point for VA cast choice for male pilots sidekick trio.

This is probably the third anime I've watched this season doing the "Current weapons don't work, so these girls using special weapons fight invading enemy" thing.

As for this one, apparently it is more... fantasy than Sci-Fi?
But it is a bit cringey, because we literally have Odin in this world and the thing is that the other anime of this type are more sci-fi, so having gods and mythological beings instead just feels weird.

Also, the wings sprouting on a plane thing is EXTREMELY lame.
Outside of the fact the planes are... uh, kinda... old?

I mean, in general, it was pretty average. There were some parts that made it stand out from the rest, but not necessarily in a good way, just an amusing way.

Also, despite being average, the first episode was two-episodes long. Which is pretty... sss...zzzzzzzz.............

It was alright. I knew it has magic beforehand but I totally didn't expect them to put Norse Mythology in here.

I feel this is one of those anime where you don't try to make sense out of some of its aspects (Just Like Strike Witches, Haifuri, GuP) and just enjoy story, characters and action.

Btw, Re:Zero's author wrote the script for this? I wonder what kind of story is coming in future ep.

I do like the beginning - it is at least well executed and they managed to show charm points for all 4 characters for the viewer to like. They even did a good balance of showing why the ace is the ace while making the locals useful, a hard balance to strike.

Claudia, your mistake was in taking only people in high-tech yet generic, greyish aircraft. Males, too. They tend to die fast. Take weird, colorful planes with cute girls and the attrition rate goes down

Not seriously, I saw at least one Eurofighter there, and unless those were Austrian planes, the EFs should definitely have ejection seats, so no one making it out is extremely unlikely to begin with. Tbh I even doubt that Austrian Typhoon's don't have ejection seats, I mean some of the equipment is indeed missing, but I doubt they bought them without ejection seats.
Then again, they are flying pieces of trash, so...

Actually most of the planes we saw damaged should have had plenty of time to use ejection seats. And should have been fast enough that anything that could catch them would have no problem catching any of the old prop driven planes we watched outrunning them.

If there is some magic reason why the girls have to use slow deathtraps why not at least give them the better modern versions like a Super Tucano or AT-6B Wolverine?

I know, that's my point.
That being said, we exclusively use EFs atm. and there were talks about shared border controls with switzerland before.

Gong by the call sign, the interceptors either belonged to Germany, Switzerland our Austria, which would align with the battle being fought around Mount Blanc.

Switzerland can be crossed off the list, since they don't have Typhoons, as far as I know.

Both Germany and Austria are close enough to Switzerland, and both countries would have an interest to help Switzerland there too.
The really notably thing is that both countries exclusively use EFs for air defense.

Since German names in Japanese animes almost always mean German heritage, we can safely assume that at least a part of that squadron is German, (There seems to be a EU-Defense force going on here), rather than Austrian. (This is important, believe me.)

Next hint towards Germany is that Austria is actively trying to get rid of all it's EFs, and replace them with something more suitable for it's needs. Making F16s or Gripen being much more likely for an Austrian squad.

Conclusion: This squad is most likely a German squadron.

in other words, we are, very likely, talking about the fully fletched and armored model here, without any cut-out systems. So, as we have both stated by now, they all should definitely have ejection seats, and enough time to eject. (Especially the last one).

I wondered about that too. That and which country Claudia is actually from. Going by the Surname I'd say the UK, the Gladiator is a british plane too, I think...
That at least explains why she has a byplane, and not something more on the level of the Zero we've seen too.

This anime is using Norse mythology & we haven't yet to see the Gripen..
