Outside of the ear-rape OP, it was pretty good. I'm not a Dragon Quest fan, though I do recognize a few of the monsters.
Also, I guess the princess' voice doesn't really fit. It looks like she's the energetic? type, which I can't say Hayamin's basic voice fits well.
The ED was... at least listenable.

Also, holy crap, Tanezaki. She can do eroge, do females, and do males (to a point, obviously). I am constantly impressed with her range of voices.

Nice first episide. There were some scenes that looked a bit too !ugh like cheap CG but globally I'd say the fights were well done and that's important. Going by the pacing, this is going to last for a long time.

The animation was lit especially during the battles. I wonder how long they can keep up like this, this is going to be fun to follow.

Edit: there is one thing i found weird while rewatching it, it's the lack of music from the Dragon quest games. The original anime had them, it even had the main theme played just before the OP. Maybe they are to do something completely new with the anime on the music side? The next episodes will probably tell.

This was a higher-quality remake than I expected, especially coming from Toei, and thankfully only the monsters in the background were done in CG. At times, the art style reminded me of the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie. Here's hoping this one goes on long enough to cover the entire 37-volume manga without rushing through it.

Felt really old school, in a good way. Only thing I disliked were the ugly CGI monsters, hopefully they don't use that trick too often.

Not really , but is long, 37 volumes and by the preview of the first 6 episodes this adaptation will be going faster than the '91 one.

This arc is a bit longer in the manga.

The king was not on the boat.
The fake heroes brought Gome back to the capital, where the king threw a big party to celebrate their victory, and Dai crashed the party.
So it's more believable that the king was deceived by the fake heroes. He was too far away.
Also, those magical tubes were much more important, as otherwise leading a band of monsters to travel across the country would inevitably attract attention.

Nevertheless, it's not a problem since this is just an introduction arc. The most important part, "Dai defeated the fake heroes and the king recognized and rewarded him", was conveyed faithfully, while other details do not really matter in the grand scheme of things.

Holy crap that was rushed and forced. Probably it felt forced because it was rushed.
I mean, the protagonist and princess were thrown into this cave, but then they are underground in the next scene (kinda missing a scene where they fall underground?), and the eeeevvvillll guy (holy crap he is into his evvvvill role) just leaves and tells them not to come back, which means he kinda knows they aren't dead despite his group's top priority being the princess' death.

This is under the assumption that if the princess dies, no one will suspect the guy that went with her and had a lot to gain from her death.

And the poison was honestly speeding up and slowing down to fit the story, so sure...

when Baron casts Io he doesn't blow them into the cave but causes the terrain to collapse and they fall underground. This is also why he doesn't stay to finish them. The plan isn't actually that bad, had Leona died the only remaining witnesses would have been soldiers loyal to Temjin and the idea that she could have been killed by monsters in an island renowed for being inhabited by monsters isn't far fetched. Maybe extensive investigations would have revealed inconsistencies and cracks in their story but these two were never meant to be anything more than disposable oneshot villains anyway.
