Definitely a very good episode.
Suffice to say, the level of cuteness there was quite hard to handle. Good to see that even the classmates (including Kazari) are there to back them up, so it does feel that Yuuta and Rikka aren't in their little world, as everyone else just see how painfully obvious they are an item, yet expect more things have happened. This also extends to Shinka: it is refreshing that Shinka is also covered as a character, instead of the receiving end of jokes and the love advisor. At this rate, we might see Shinka trying to accept her chuuni like Yuuta did, instead of "accidentaly leaking it". My only nitpick would be that they should have put this episode as ep4 in term of timing as being already in midway is a tad too slow in my books (that and the fact they were dating for 6 months with nothing happening thus far is too much of a sketch... 3 months ok, but twice that period...) Now, it makes me wonder how Satone's role will go on: we have like 6-7 episodes left, and I sure hope we won't have a shoehorned triangle (avorted early by Satone's claim, thankfully) or drama. But for a major new character, she is falling behind way too fast, which is a shame since she is a good addition (whereas Kumin and Makoto are being already beyond the sidelines).

Hands down the best one so far in this very lackluster season 2. At first I was very happy that they announced it was gonna be more light-hearted than Season 1, but now I regret it. It's just that it feels like the series has been stuck without little to no character development or anything interesting happening, it's like Satone could be a lot more, but she just isn't... it feels pretty awkward.
It completely threw me off that they started teasing Nibutani about her relationship with Yuuta, I know it's not gonna be a love triangle, but it's just weird that they've already joked about it twice this season. Finally an episode with any real development between Yuuta and Rikka since episode 02. Really hoping KyoAni steps up Last edited by Daysun22; 2014-02-13 at 09:04. Reason: clarifying something |

This is screaming third season, or maybe it's my brain. You have a wonderful new girl who's done practically nothing, a couple that's done next to nothing, though I realize they're going at their own speed, and to somehow wrap it all up in the last half would cause severe whiplash from the change of pacing. It's like this is all a setup season. I enjoy every episode and all the dynamics, and I just hope that the sadness I feel from a conclusion is due to having to say goodbye to the characters as they go on with their lives, and not because I was dropped off a cliff because of a rushed finale.

Well, as Yuuta has mentioned Rikka was unlike any other girl he has seen, and she was his first date too. Not only that, Rikka basically acted like a child for like 99% of the time, and it's really hard to treat her the usual lover's way even from an observer's point of view. Again, as Yuuta had mentioned, their relationship was more 'father-daughter' kind than anything. Even lolis are 'sexier' than Rikka.

This was a nice, sweet episode with some good moments. Showing certain key moments literally through the eyes of Rikka was also a good call. It made the intensity and emotionality of certain moments come alive more.
That being said, if they're not going to progress the Yuuta/Rikka relationship much beyond where they are now, I'd rather see more focus on other characters, especially Shinka, as she strikes me as the character with the most potential for interesting character development. In fact, we got a bit of that this episode. One exchange made it pretty clear that Shinka has actually never been in a romance before. This gives her playing matchmaker for Rikka and Yuuta have a touch of "living vicariously through" to me. In other words, Shinka is a romantic, but is too nervous to enter into her own romance with another person. So by playing matchmaker, she gets to embrace her love of romance and watch other people play it out in front of her. Quote:
Here you have Nibutani, who lost interest in other clubs, but has managed to stay in this bizarre chuuni/nap club. Why is she there? What gives this club an edge for her? Well, this club has exactly one male member - Is it possible she has a crush on him? Keep in mind that Nibutani is very popular. She could probably easily get with any (unattached) guy in class if she wanted to. Why doesn't she want to? Is it because she has a crush on a guy that's already taken? It's not an unthinkable idea from an outsider's perspective, that's for sure.

So, that was a perfect Valentine's Day-esque episode.
Fun and very sweet. At first I was expecting a full on kiss, but that peck was just as cute. And also quite the jump for Rikka too, relationship wise. Oh Isshiki, I pity you greatly my friend. Class trip episodes are always so much fun. |

man that was the episode, a really impressive development from rikka, o could see yuuta trying to do this but never rikkar she really did a hug step, another thing i liked is with even with all the pression from both yuuta and rikka friends to speed up their relationship, yuuta still aware of rikka shy and dont is bothered by their slow pace(he not troubled and undestoord who the things are hard for her and she love him but still to much shy this the reason she keep running), maybe if their friends stop to force then and let them try by themselfs their can progress better on their own pace, really a amazing episode 10/10 for me. ps: more nibutani try to deny her chunibiou more she just get more inside/possessed, she really must let her chunibiou side come out by herself like rikka or deko or she gonna ending really turning more crazy than even the new girl as she keep regressing to her old self(maybe in a bad way unlike yuuta who was able to reconcile with his dark flame master and can control both unlike her who just keep losing more and more the control(her buttom is a big sense of danger in ending great broke). |

Agreed. This is a little more of the sort of thing I was hoping for, to be honest, and I can only hope they continue down this general path.
Many nice things about the ep in general, to boot. I especially liked seeing the interaction with the rest of the class. ^^

I find it difficult to focus on the scene in which Yuuta accompanied Rikka back upstairs. I kept expecting them to get caught by a teacher.
It's quite sad that even though they are going out for half a year already, both Yuuta and Rikka still act like elementary school kids when it comes to dating and stuff. Even taking a picture together can get them so flustered. Perhaps this is how the otaku, the show's intended audience and market, view romance and going out with someone. |

Seems like this show exists in the same universe as K-on where high school dating is platonic and you're not ostracised when your friends discover you're chuubyo (Nibutani).... Ah... Nibutani doing her fairy prayer thing was cute though..... >.< Last edited by ID555; 2014-02-14 at 04:54. |
