For a show similar to .hack//sign, you'll definately want Avenger. It's by the company that made .hack//sign, after all, and the people who liked/didn't like .hack//sign are saying the same things about it. It's sci-fi and not fantasy, but then again, so was .hack//sign, technically...
One of the funniest shows being subbed now is Tenshi na Konamaiki. Its animation style is slightly odd and takes a few episodes to get used to, but it is high-quality, and if you stick with it for two or three episodes you'll come to like it. Some people really like Bottle Fairy, which they say has a strong Azumanga Daioh feel to it. It might approach the sort of wierdness you liked in Guu, I don't know. And it's super-deformed, but if you like fantasy and humor, there's a sort of funny humerous fantasy called Mahoujin Guru Guru that makes fun of old 8-bit RPGs. It's a bit old (though unlicensed, with new subs just recently being released), so it might not stand up to your standards for quality, but I thought I should mention it... If you've seen Slayers or Dragon Half, you'll have some idea what to expect both in terms of art and humor (it isn't as good as Dragon Half, but what is?) Oh, for other fantasy, Mermaid's Forest and Shingetsutan Tsukihime are good, though they're dark fantasy and not humerous. Fullmetal Alchemist is another recently-released fantasy that a lot of people are watching. It has some of the marks of a fighting/adventure anime, which might not be to your tastes, but it does look like a high-quality one. |

You might like Papuwa. It has some of the same offbeat comical feel as Guu.
Lets all go to the fantasy tropical island where the fish have legs (and fishnet stockings). We'll make friends with the strange creatures (and probably have one for dinner) Don't eat the giant talking mushroom - even though he will invite you to. |
