World's First real time wearable language translator will
be smaller than imagined Star Trek universal translator:

"A portable device has a button and a speaker. One person speaks into
Ili while holding down the button; after the user stops speaking, the
speaker relays the message in the chosen language. (Right now, Ili
only supports English, Chinese and Japanese, but its parent company,
Logbar, has promised more will be available in the future.) Version two
will have French, Thai, and Korean

Ili's novel feature — and the perk that distinguishes it from translation
services like Google — is its capacity to work without a wireless
connection. It relies on its own database of words and phrases, which
means it can conceivably be used in any situation, whether you're
scaling the mountains of Chile or stuck underground on the New York
City subway."

I'll wait for it to release and get some reviews, but the PV made it look really good. Didn't seem like the normal "google translate" (or worse) that you get with translation apps. Might be a must-have for any traveler.

"A nonprofit called Earth Species Project (ESP) has one goal: decode non-human communication. The organization believes the nonstop advancements in artificial intelligence can help seal the deal—fast.

“We believe that an understanding of non-human languages will transform our relationship with the rest of nature,” the organization’s website says. Of course, not only does Earth Species Project want to decode animal languages—it also wants to start communicating with the animals."
