.hack//roots ep2 play back prob

Okies I have downloaded the [LuPerry.com]_dot_hack_Roots_-_02_(1280x720_x264).[AA828A23] file, and I have Matroska_Pack_Full_v1.1.1 and I play the file in windows media, and it says "error downloading codec" and all I get on the screen is the sound file(picture of a sound wave), and no video.

So I downloaded VLC media player as a freind told me it works for him, yet when I do, the video freezes and all I get is sound ..and then the player crashes.

So as you can see I haven't had much luck, is there anything anyone can do to help me in some way. Thanks loads ^_^

xxx

Try using CCCP with zoom player or MPC. WMP is really bad to use with .mkv files and VLC is also pretty bad. Of course that's just my opinion.

Okies maybe it didn't work as well as I expected, there seems to be still a problem ...I have sound picture subs..but the picture is jumpy and the voices are speaking before they do, it's kind of all over the place O_o;

Any ideas on how to solve this? ^_^

Thanks xxx

How fast is your computer? A 1280x720 H264 encode puts quite a strain on any CPU, even modern ones.

The difference is that this particular episode is of a MUCH higher resolution than most fansubs. Like I wrote in another thread:

This file, however, is 1280x720, and hence it has 921600 pixels/frame - more than three times as much. If we simplify things A LOT and assume that your computer has to do one calculation per pixel or so, this means that your computer has to do THREE TIMES as many calculations per second when decoding the 1280x720 file when compared to the 640x480 one. Which of course translates to a lot more CPU usage. (In reality, stuff is VERY much more complicated than this, but still, more pixels means many more calculations. There's some overhead involved, too, so three times more pixels doesn't exactly mean three times higher CPU usage...)
A couple of weeks ago I'd have told you to try with CoreAVC (a very fast H264 decoder), but it's not free anymore. If you want it, you'll have to pay money (or find an illegal copy, but let's not go there - at least not on this forum...). I'd suggest you just get a smaller version of the same episode instead.

Yes but the HQ version is just so pretty!! On my computer (1.42gigherz iBook) I can either have good frame rates and messed up sound, or I can enable drop frames and have good sound and super choppy video. I guess I just can't have my cake and eat it too.

I've also been having problems on the roots series.

I get the following error:
Quote:
Unable to download an appropriate decompressor. (Error=80040200)
And then the sound doesn't play. Subtitles and the episodes themselves play normally - apparently, anyway. I just skipped around to different points to check.
