Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon

Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon is getting an anime adaptation

Plot Description:

Quote:
After dying in a traffic accident, I find myself standing near an unfamiliar lake. My body won't move, I can't hear my voice, and when I try to shout in confusion, words that I never expected come out!

"Get one free with a winner."

I-it seems I've turned into a vending machine...! I can only do what actual vending machines can. It's impossible to move by myself, and there's no way for me to have any meaningful conversation-how am I going to survive some fantasy world's dungeon like this?!

Series Reception, as per Wikipedia.
Quote:
Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon has received positive reception. Theron Martin of Anime News Network reviewed the first volume positively, praising its unique take on the isekai genre, Hirukuma's writing style, and the relationship between Boxxo and Lammis, which he found to be impressive and not having to "resort to hackneyed gimmicks". Summarising that "this novel's bizarre concept is what will catch people's attention, but the writing is good enough to keep it", some criticism was directed at the light novel's fanservice, which Martin found to be forced, and the RPG elements typical of isekai series. Similarly, Robert Frazer of UK Anime Network found Reborn as a Vending Machine to be "a blast of fresh air to flush out the stale isekai genre", as "it’s fun and different to defeat the villain with Diet Coke and Mentos instead of just firing a Saiyan blast at a higher powerlevel".

Rebecca Silverman and Lynzee Loveridge, in Anime News Network's Spring 2018 Light Novel Guide, also praised the setting but found the writing to "read like fan-fiction-level quality". They ultimately found the volume to "still [be] an engaging read", and compared it to So I'm a Spider, So What? and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. Loveridge further included the protagonist's "Death By Vending Machine" on her list of the "7 Strangest Isekai Deaths".

I think I have heard the name of this before but I've never checked it out. It is one of an early 'reincarnated' story when the trend start

... shut the fuck off, there is no way that THIS got an adaptation.

Someone should tell Japan that when you hit the bottom of the barrel you are not supposed to keep digging.

Oh boy. Yeah, I remember this one coming out during that "reincarnated-as-an-object" popularity phase that went on for a while.

There was that Panties Reincarnation story for example.

Hmm...it's another 2016 web novel anime adaption. I guess the Six Year Anime Adaption Web Novel Rule is true.

The author's 2 other notable series include:

- Ano Orokamono ni mo Kyakkou wo!/A time in the limelight for this fool too! - Konosuba LN spinoff focusing on Dust, that loser-ish adventurer side character. Complete at 7 volumes.

- The NPCs in this Village Sim Game Must Be Real! - Depressed shutin receives a mysterious game where he can play god to a bunch of villagers under a timed series of monster attacks. As he grows more immersed in ensuring the villagers' safety, he learns to climb out of his shell and pick up the pieces of his life again.

The strange thing is that the LN publication for Vending Machine has been stalled at Vol 3 since 2017; and Kadokawa never resumed publishing it again. It's been widely speculated the LN got cancelled due to not meeting sales numbers.
(The author wrote the WN to completion though, the LN only covers like a quarter of the WN.)

Huh, I wonder if the anime would actually go beyond those three volumes then. I remember seeing this series at a bookstore years ago, but it didn't catch my interest much (the subject matter and I usually don't bother with an incomplete series, particularly minor ones).

Well, its not the worst light novel title I've ever heard, maybe I'll watch an episode or two when it starts.

You know, if this wasn't being treated like a comedy it would be a pretty decent horror premise. First you think the worst thing that can happen to you is dying...and then you spend eternity trapped inside a freaking vending machine!

Luckily for this guy that's probably not where they are going with it .

This one is pretty good, one of my favorite mangas but we got instead a vending machine?

Sigh...

At this point I bet production committees implemented a manga reader that green-lights anything isekai and/or involving truck-kun.

Well Truck-Kun didn't get to kill the MC in this Series though.

At this point I'm just waiting for someone to write a spin off story of Wilson the Volleyball from Castaway.

Pending title: I died in a plane crash and my soul was transplanted into this volleyball and now I have to keep this weird guy company!

What the heck of story do you even tell when your MC is a vending machine?

That one sounds interesting. Is there a twist where the NPC are sapient?

I'm not familiar with the term sapient, sorry, is like the NPC knows they are in a game?.

You think someone actually reads them? They probably just look at the overly long titles and just greenlit everything with the words "Isekai" or "Tensei".

Seems like a great way to keep those watching mainly isekai to stay that way. And to make everyone else stay away. I fall in the latter.
