Sweet, now busty Nosuri and her brother part of the dream team.
Is her brother the mastermind of some Yamato general/noble or something? He's in the OP with the Yamato general/noble guys with the black jacket and hat and seriously wicked face. Didn't he and Nosuri participate in that bandit-supply attack? Munechika got the right to spank the princess? I see her as the super-serious-powerful beauty. That Haku vs. Oshutoru moment was gold. Haku using Hakuoro's fan like a champ. That noodle-shop guy must have made a killing that day. Instead of popcorn, they're eating noodles. |

I agree with the general sentiment here, this episode was probably the low point for me. The fujoshi joke is really stale and needs to go and I really need to see some reason why Haku deserves the affection and respect he gets from other characters.

Sorry, couldn't stop myself. But seriously, this seems to be a tough choice for animators of single-season series. Seems like a lot of the time the number of episodes is either too short, and fans will rant about how much the series rushes, or too long, and fans complain that the series drags its heels. I imagine it's hard to get a story to fit a specific time length. Let's just be glad this's long enough that they can drag like this, it's better than it racing through everything at light speed. |

I think it means more Ougi is with the palace people than sides. Even the emperor and Oshutoru are in that group of people, and they don't appear to be evil. Also, I don't think he had a wicked face in that group picture.

Seeing that there are people still enjoying this episode in some other places, I gave the episode a second try after cool down. The comedy is still not very effective save for a few, but it doesn't feel that annoying to see it playing silly now, and there are things of note I didn't pick up at first.
It's not only Anju, but all the girls didn't seem to understand the weight of the event, including Kuon who still thought it's just an act when Oshutoru said he would cut himself, and including Nekone who thought taking an army would just have Anju being scolded - she acted by emotion. These are character developments that may have effect in future, but in a way that is too silly and that I'm not quite fond of. I'm not sure did they really learnt the lesson though. Someone said it's a change of narrative in this episode, and I think it's probably true. In the anime arrangement, Haku is being slapped in the face by reality. He have been avoiding conflict and followed the flow so far, but Oshutoru charging him leaves him no choice but fight. Since in the game it was Haku who slapped Anju and two others girls with reality, the anime arrangement is probably a signal for slapping reality into the narrative itself. But of course with the poor Kiuru at the end, the message is comedy part is not gone just yet. Observing the shift between silliness and seriousness is actually more interesting then the silly jokes. It can be seen the situation is actually solved by Haku making a clearly silly comment of 5000 army coming. The flow of the whole situation seems to make some sense in terms of narrative shifting, but not very effective in terms of entertainment and presentation. |

Wow, I thought this episode was pretty good. Lot of character development among Anju, Haku and a reinforcement of how competent Oshutoru is.
As Alf mentioned, Haku learned a lesson about avoiding conflict. His quick thinking only got him so far and Oshu managed to both teach him that not all problems can be solved with wit as well as gauge his progress. Which while it was pretty clear Oshu was taking it easy vs Haku, Haku still put on a good show. Anju finally learns the true weight her actions carries thanks to Oshu's display. As for the other girls none of them seemed to really appreciate the ramifications of Anju's actions up until Oshu's display. Haku is effectively the only one of the group to truly appreciate the mess Anju was making. The girls were largely just treating Anju as anyone else but in Anju's situation the person can never be fully separated from the station they hold. This is exactly why Oshu has his other persona. It would be neat if Anju realizes this and adopts her own alternate ego. The amount of time spent 'playing' is what I think is rubbing people the wrong way? Although imo thats what made the serious part all the more poignant. @SeaDoor Hes very intelligent and kind. Though he is shown to be inherently lazy, once hes been committed to a task he does it with all due diligence. I mean hes literally been shit shovelling the past couple eps and has been doing so without being flaky or bitchy as he explained to his shota helper hes learned 'all jobs are important'. Although I suppose extremely conflict averse is more accurate than kind? I agree the fujoshi gags were getting old, but really all we had was a cut-a-away to said fujoshi-being-a-fujoshi. Which given how hard they've ingrained that into her character simply seeing her act as we have been led to expect at this point doesn't really count as a 'gag' imo. Same thing when series build up a character as a lecher. Miroku from Inuyasha comes to mind. Whether they eventually give her any depth remains to be seen. |
