$800 Computer
EDIT
Ok after going over it once again with my friend we got this CPU Thermal Compound Mobo Fan Video Card PSU RAM HDD Optical Drive OS $741.90 So the main reason for this computer is to play MMO's and other games like Mirrors Edge and Fallout 3. I'm Getting the Quad because my friend is an Encoder and Quad's are good for that right? We do plan on Overclocking the Q6600 as high as we can on air cooling. And if you can make it cheaper please do. Edit 2- I've Read about P5Q Pro has problems with Q6600 with overclocking is that true ? If it is Suggests fir a new mobo would be nice and I need a good looking case :O

There is a nice combo deal on the 4870 and 4 GB of Corsair memory. It'll cost you about 50 dollars more than your current build, but the 4870 completely destroys the 9800GT. Or you can go to a 4850, which will still be better than a 9800GT. Also keep in mind that the Q6600 has a multiplier of 9, so any PC-6400 RAM will get it to 3.2. 8 x 400 =3200 or 9 x 355 |

If you have 200 dollars for a video card and dislike ATI, you could go for the 260 GTX 216 core version or the 192 core version.
If you know about the 25% cashback deal on eBay that Microsoft is currently offering to U.S. residents, you can take advantage of that and obtain the 192 core version for $140 after MIR, or the 216 version for $200 after cashback. Of course, if you don't want to jump through hoops, just get the eVGA 260 GTX with 192 cores with FarCry 2 for $180 after rebate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130370 http://images10.newegg.com/UploadFil..._-NA-_-NA-_-NA |

If you happened to still want a 9800 GT, it's only $99 after rebate at Amazon with free shipping.
http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-512-P3-N9...7425602&sr=8-1 It's $119 after rebate at Amazon for that dual-slot overclocked 9800 GT you originally linked which is also cheaper then Newegg and you still get free shipping. http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-512-P3-N9...7425602&sr=8-5

Your configuration looks ok. A minor thing. You got the wrong thermal compound. This is what you need. The one you linked is a pain to work with. It's a lot harder to spread than the Arctic silver S5.
As for the HD4830, it's quite a good deal performance/price wise. But you are going to ATI now Nothing wrong with ATI these days btw. Their cards hold the best bang for your bucks atm. I would recommend this one. I'm not sure about the case though... 25Cm front, and 35Cm side. I hope the fans have a good dust filter. And sidefans usually don't help with creating a good airflow. You will probably need atleast one 120mm fan to serve as a outtake if your going with that case. I got the CM690 myself. Big case, enough space to work away your cabels so it won't disturb the airflow. Comes with 3 decent casefans. @cyberbeing, i would personally avoid single slot cards. Their coolers are usually just cutting it. And i don't think any of us like their cards running at 90C. Even if it is withing specs limit. And they are dumping the heat inside your case. Dual slots is the way to go imo

I think you should go for the P5Q pro. The motherboard isn't something to cheap out on.
The reason i would avoid the P5Q SE Plus: - ATX power placement. It's stupid... i got a P5QL-E... ATX is on the same stupid place. I worked everything away nicely, but that kabel just hangs there disturbing airflow, not to mention it's just a awkward place. - Northbridge coolingblock. NB is responsible for communication from videa/cpu/ram. Mine NB runs HOT. To hot to touch it for more than 2 sec. The P5Q pro has a heatpipe system, which i believe will do a better job than a single coolingblock. The SE is just a block on itself. Might run very hot like mine NB... Guess those two points are my regrets about my on mobo... And check Asus QVL before going with the ram. It looks good. But make sure it's on the QVL to. Asus motherboads can be picky about ram. I had a heaploads of problems with incompatible ram on my motherboard.

Any reason your getting a 80GB IDE drive instead of a SATA like the Western Digital Caviar Blue WD800JD 80GB? As a related question, is there any reason you aren't just getting one really big drive like the Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 1TB which is $89.99 after rebate so you have more storage space?
If you wanted faster memory, you could get something like OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066 for $51.99 after rebate.

You could replace the 4850 with a 4870 for $200 after rebate or GTX 260 216 for $230 after rebate.
You could also beef up your PSU to something like the Antec 650W for $50 (same price as the 500W until 11/26) or the PC Power and Cooling 610W for $60 after rebate.

There's no point in getting PC-8500 memory due the FSB of the CPU. It's going to run at PC-6400 speeds even if you overclock. Get this instead
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-267-_-Product I'm also not seeing why you're spending 70 bucks for 320 GB of space when you get easily get 640GB or 1 TB for that much money. Here is one of the fastest HDDs in the market for 70 bucks http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136218 Here is an OCZ 600w PSU for $28 after MIR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341010 If you REALLY want power and a WONDERFUL deal, here is a 1000w Antec PSU for $80 after MIR. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371012 Use Coupon code HGGANTEC50 Rebate http://www.newegg.com/Special/Rebate...&action=search Over kill..... I know, but 1000w for 80 bucks! Last edited by problemedchild; 2008-11-25 at 02:06. |

How are OCZ PSU's on reliability? Antec, Enermax, PC Power & Coolling, and Silverstone are the only brands I'm familiar with as reliable.
