One Piece - Chapter 1078 [manga]
Welcome to the weekly manga discussion thread for One Piece.
Thread GuidelineBriefs
Let's get this party started! Credit goes to AP's Redon and co. for info: -Title is "Escape Time Limit". In the ministory, Caesar and Judge decide to establish a new group: Neo MADs. -Stussy informs Sentoumaru about Kizaru's fleet making its way to Egghead. The reasons why it's bigger than a normal Buster Call is because of Vegapunk's research of the Void Century, and that unlike Ohara, Egghead is more than capable of defending itself. Meanwhile, back to Franky's group, Franky himself is still conscious despite being partially stone. Pythagoras tearfully asks S-Snake who took over command of her, but she only answer she gives is a stomp to the Punk clone, seemingly blowing him up..... -Back to Nami's group, Brooke goes off to search for the Stella (in spirit form) while Sanji takes on S-Shark. Though the Seraphim punches him, he receives no damage at all! The cook claims that's due to the power of love, heh. We then cut to Luffy's group. Their opponents' flames haven't been extinguished yet, so they still can't get damaged. Suddenly, S-Hawk is gone! Lucci figures that he decided to focus on weaker targets instead, as a strategy to distract his stronger foes. Nonetheless, Zoro and Kaku chase him down while Luffy and Lucci concentrate on S-Bear. -We briefly see an emotional Bonney experiencing Kuma's past while the narration informs us readers that the origin of the current incident began three months ago. An anonymous source tipped off the WG that Vegapunk was researching the Void Century, so they sent the Cipher Pol agents to investigate.... but they didn't come back. The tipster then directly contacted the Gorousei, who right then and there decided to send CP0 to eliminate the scientist. As an extra precaution, Kizaru's fleet and Saturn were sent to Egghead, as well. The vast amount of forces on their way to the island is essentially on the scale of a fleet going to war! By this time the next day, the aftermath of the "Egghead Incident" will shake the world to its core as it never has before....!!! At the end of the chapter, the traitor is finally revealed.... it's none other than VEGAPUNK YORK!!! Not only does she wish to become the ONLY Vegapunk, she wants to become a Celestial Dragon, as well...!!!! Last edited by marvelB; 2023-03-14 at 21:48. |

Small update! Looks like some of the earlier info was fake. Funny that the Vegapunk whose purpose is to basically be lazy.... wants to join the group of inbred aristocrats whose existence mostly consists of lazing around, lol. Anyway, what really caught my attention was the Neo MADs development. Do Caesar and Judge intend to include Queen in the mix, as well? Because that would be pretty difficult, considering he's most likely being held in Impel Down by now. Still, who knows what horrors those two can cook up now that they decided to join forces once more.....

Full summary came out, so one more update to the OP! Man, with all the forces on their way to Egghead, it just makes me wonder why Imu doesn't say "screw it" and have the island nuked with that Ancient Weapon or whatever it was that blew up Lulucia (the island Sabo was hiding on at the start of this arc). Seems like it would be way more efficient than sending out battalions of marines, I'd think!
But yeah, the fact that Saturn is on his way there definitely looks to point towards one of the elders getting toppled. He may even be the main arc boss (I wouldn't be surprised if those geezers can hold their own in battle.... one of them even has a sword, after all). As for him getting outright killed, though.... can't say for certain who'd land that final blow. Someone like Blackbeard sorta comes to mind, but I think he's still too busy with Law at the moment. And even then, he's still got Garp to deal with since he kidnapped Coby..... |

I'm wondering, now that the top of the island is basically Vegapunks brain, what would happen if they destroy is. Will Vegapunk die (which would kinda make the whole "please take him off this island" pointless), or will he be kinda lobotomized…

As for the old man (Saturn) he must have some combat skills or some useful ability because if not, why risk going and becoming an obstacle, well to wait for the chapter. |

I’m not sure Vegapunk prime would have built her that way unless he allowed her to gain information from the other celestial dragons by hanging out with them which sounds like absent minded negligence on his part.

I know that York surely took it into account but I mean that Stella must have noticed something at some point with how intelligent he is..., but well I guess I'm thinking about it a lot, after all the old man can be intelligent and a perfectionist, but not perfect.

Youch.
I'll admit that I got thrown off of suspecting York as much as I really should have been from second-guessing myself and thinking too hard and too much about who it was. Should have had it click in my head when S-Snake merely knocked mero-mero'd York to the side without breaking her, plus the time between Franky's group getting knocked down from up on that walkway and when she went back down there after them (presumably). And that coat of hers looks awfully convenient to hide either some additional cyborg modifications or some Green Blood transfusions to have either one or multiple artificial DF abilities at her disposal in case of emergencies. She's had to have at least thought ahead enough to know that she'd need to maintain access to Punk Records in order to remain indispensable enough to be made a Tenryuubito. Who wants to bet that the Gorosei (i.e. Saturn) gave York the a-okay to have the CP agents dealt with? Why else would the Seraphim's orders be to eliminate the other Vegapunks if that risked letting this get discovered by those same agents, especially if you take Lucci's admission that they were sent to eliminate them? Not to mention how hypocrisy is the WG's middle name at this point. Makes me wonder how well Lucci and Kaku would react (especially Lucci) to finding out they're considered loose ends to deal with. |

I would say that the loss of Lucci, Kaku, and Stussy would be a big punch for the WG since the intel could be leaked too many enough for Morgans to obtain every intel that can shake the world. Akainu would be hard-pressed to suppress the news, and the WG influence would dwindle out. Furthermore, RA can use this opportunity to seize more members and spread influence. |
