Tokyo? More like Akihabara.
So the girls ranked 99th in the School Idol popularity board and got invited to the start of the Summer Love Live competition. It's just amusing seeing them getting dressed up weirdly when they were heading out to Tokyo, but Riko knocked some sense into them and got them to change back to normal... well except Yohane. The girls then run around Akiba taking in the sights. Zuramaru's "It's the future zura!" never gets old. They made a short stop to the idol shop. Yes the same idol shop that has muse plushies and what not. Yohane got distracted by the goth-loli shop and You got pulled to a uniform store. All pretty amusing till I had a good laugh at Riko eyeing up the "Kabedon" cafe. Also this episode we are introduced to A-RISE ver2.0, Saint Snow. It's amusing that this duo is flamboyant with the cool seriousness of A-RISE. Rest of the episode just had some more amusing stuff as the girls stayed overnight before attending the preliminaries at Akiba DOOM! I've started to worry about the girls as it feels like they might actually crash and burn with the way some of the members are feeling and the supreme air of confidence the rivals showed. Doesn't help the next episode title is ominous. Plus even more drama with the 3rd years. Goodness sake, what really happen 2 years ago?!

Looks like two of those girls are rivals. The Ria girl looks like Nico but with a more silent personality and she is quite athletic.
The girls' outfits prior to going to Tokyo were priceless. I expect the competition to be tough ZURA

mirai zura !
so a rival did appear like expected, they have a little mean look so i wonder if their relationship will be as good as µ's and a-rise. judging by next week preview they'll fail against rival (the will have a moving speech about not giving up and train to improve !). seem like 3rd year got a similar experience but was not able to recover from it. if they were active 2 year ago, wouldn't that make it possible they failed against µ's imouto ? if its 5 year after LL, 2 year ago would be 3 year after LL when the imouto's are 3rd year in otonokizaka? |

Poor Hanayo, no merch in the muse corner this time. Even Nico has multiple stuffs! (The green piece of cloth at the top might be her but its so hard to tell from feet alone)
Seeing Zuramaru dressed up as a miner made me LOL so hard. I'm feeling really sorry for Dia now. All the hints point to the 3rd years having been through the same thing. (Its summer now, and Dia was in her summer uniform before she started 'hating' idols) I'm thinking with the way Mari claims that Dia is protective over Kanan that Kanan got hit with stage fright super hard when they got invited, since its one thing to perform for your town but to perform in front of a huge audience elsewhere is... Anyway, more Chikko shipping! I almost want this to be a thing now. PS: I want that huge Honkers head, someone gift me please. Edit: OH MY, that's definitely the reporter girl from S2E6 and 8! |

MIKOYOUMIKOYOUMIKOYOU! Please, You, don't just do that all of a sudden! I almost jump from my chair.
Anyway... as I said in the previous thread, I was expecting a Muse-gasm, but this time I'm glad to have been wrong. This is exactly how you should reference the original love live, with the right dose of admiration and visual references. I'm actually surprised they didn't visit Kotori's old working place, even with the lessened worshipping, but that's fine. And here's the new A-Rise, right on cue, now with extra acrobatics I remember someone saying how the first music videos seemed to have more movement for Aqours, so this is probably an extension of that. Hell, it could be that they are going to be inspired by these girls to start putting on the moves. On more third year news, I'm surprised by how open Dia continues to be with Ruby, even when still carrying her own inner turmoil. What a good big sister. Now I'm wondering what exactly could be the breaking that really puts her and Kanan in motion. Also, its becoming harder and harder to not ship all third years together with Mari on top. Quote:

Yup, that's her alright. For some reason that put a big smile on my face. Haven't thought about it before, but I guess a good legacy story also references the world around the old guard, not just the individuals. Quote:
I'm starting to believe the same as well. It definetly won't happen next episode, and if we're following the original's schedule, we need at least one fun episode with the whole gang before starting the final drama. Honestly, it might be for the best, since its been built up since day one and it involves all third years. That said, there IS still just enough time to pull it off, so I'm keeping expectations low. |

Huh, one of rivals duo, Seira, is voiced by Asami Tano (Rin in Toriko, Mika in Silver Spoon, Cure Sunny in Smile Precure, Sabine Wren in Star Wars Rebels). Didn't expect a more experienced voice actress to appear here as an idol.

... A good episode? I pause at some point of the episode because of too much clicheness but other than that. the episode is solid for me. Though seriously, do high school idols now need to be super human to do acrobats like that? I was huh?... seriously?
it looks like they are entering center stage and will have a reality check next episode. The third years probably had the same thing during their time and they didn't recover from crushing defeat. Seeing the gap between the rank 100's and below. I was actually wanting to see the tops. The rival idols are performing first. Rank 100? They rank 99 and they are performing 2nd.

OH MY GOD! OH MY FUCKIN GOD!
Dia and Mari keep freakin dropping hints of what happened. I'm guessing they attended this event in Tokyo and something happened. Did they cave under pressure? Did they mess up? Did they pull a Honoka on the roof? It was definitely a turning point in their school idol career. AND WHERE IS KANAN. C'MON! With that aside, that was an amazing episode. Them experiences Tokyo was just what we needed. Riko's reactions are once again hilarious and endearing. Her seeing Ruby and Zuramaru's outfits was great. I love that they brought back the host with the glasses. And the scene with the stairs made me TEAR UP. God, I was not expecting stairs to make me feel this way. It's great it's become almost of a landmark similar to the "Rocky Steps" for Aquors. The introduction of Saint Snow was also fuckin incredible. They have awesome voices and are all around emit cool vibes. Ria's especially a baller. I hope they do well. They need to do their Rubesty!!!!!!! #lovelive_sunshine is also sitting at around 99K tweets trending. |

That scene where they climbed the stairs to the shrine would have actually been very awesome and moving had they not mentioned "HEY HEY µ's CLIMBED THESE STAIRS TOO!" Yes, we KNOW that µ's climbed those stairs before, we're not braindead and we can CLEARLY see the µ's reference! Why the hell do you have to spell it out to us and ruin the mood? That could have been such a wonderful scene and they completely raped it.

This is now seven straight episodes of substantial μ's referencing, and when the girls actually go to Tokyo, they refuse to give us even a brief cameo by a notable character from the original show? In my view, it's a terrible tease. If they're not going to give us a μ's cameo, then shut up about them. This is just painfully teasing to me... The Ruby/Dia and Mari/Dia scenes were very good. Some of the comedy was good. I'm glad to see Aqours get actual rivals, but their introduction was really over-the-top (figuratively and literally ). In most respects, when it comes to the total package, I'm not quite feeling this show. I have to be honest there.
