I'm actually expecting it to be delayed given the circumstances with COVID-19.

Mainly for quality control and the health/safety of the staff. Last thing I want to see is for it to be done poorly because it was rushed. And reflecting badly on the franchise.

Look at Seven Deadly Sins's 3rd season (also done by Studio DEEN). You can argue that it was outsourced, but it was still Studio DEEN's responsibility.

Bad-ish news: Anime has been delayed to January 2021.

Good-er news: This means the anime won't be rushed.

Actually good news: We have a new key visual courtesy of Hara Kazuhiro, and it's our first look at one of volume 12's major players, Saiguu Touri: https://www6.nhk.or.jp/anime/program...?i=loghorizon3

Interesting news: Based on the key visual, we're going all the way to volume 13's content, not ending at vol12 like most of us assumed.

Thanks for the update, DQueenie. The tweet came out at 11:03am and you've already gotten some much info

Yeah, not surprised at all with it being pushed back. But what I am surprised about is that it's including Vol 13 now.

Although, that has me concern about one thing now; pacing. It may be rushed in a different way. As in, lot of content that're going to be skipped/cut out.

Now about the new visual...

I'm not really quite fond of it, it looks like that it's more "pale" than the prior seasons in a way.

In celebration of Akatsuki's birthday, loghorizon_DORT posted part of her animation reference sheet for her S3 Round Table uniform (same one you saw in the key visual): https://twitter.com/loghorizon_DORT/...73412913795076

If the whole story goes on for at least 2 years (started in May 2018), she would turn 22. Or 23 if she was already 20 when the story started.

Happy Birthday, Akatsuki.

based on ANN its only a 12 ep....better be worth it for being this short or is it due to not enough volume to cover a 24 ep like the last 2 season's

It's probably because there aren't enough web novel volumes.* Alternatively, they're still testing the waters with how profitable/popular LH is after Mamare's scandal.

* Mamare has written at least two volumes beyond what he's posted online and theoretically, the anime team could've repeated S2's situation and worked off Mamare's notes to pad out enough content for 24 episodes. Of course, considering the mixed reactions to S2, going the safer route and sticking to 12 episodes is probably a better idea.

Trailer confirms we're covering volumes 11-13. That's a bit much to squeeze into 12 episodes...

Which is rather concerning because it can cause issues with Pacing. As in skipped/cut content.

One example; the recent 11 episodes of SAO Alicization. That covered 2 Light Novel volumes worth of content, but there was a lot in those 2 volumes (believe me, I've read them after the anime stopped in Dec. 2019 to finish Alicization & get it out of the way).

Those 11 episodes cut out a good chunk of Light Novel content. Content that were crucial to it's writing, narrative & to an extent; pacing. And it also didn't help that it added "filler" content and it took up a decent chunk of episode time.

If SAO Aliciazation's recent 11 episodes had those issues with covering 2 (big) Light Novel volumes worth of content, then it could be the same with Log Horizon covering 3 Volumes worth of content in 12 episodes...

You folks always fretting over adaptation pacing...
Anime producers have a goal set to an adaptation.
They compromise on stuff, whether fans like it or not.
Then comes the usual "Want more? Buy the LNs".
When are you gonna understand such a crucial thing?

And often times, compromises can be costly.

Look at Magical Warfare, even Hisashi Suzuki (the Author) thought it was poorly done. To the point to where he said that it was a mistake to have it adapted into an anime. That is saying something.

In a narrative-based series like Log Horizon, pacing is everything. If the scriptwriters and director don't grasp that, then they're not doing their jobs properly.

If someone introduced to LH through the anime gets turned off from the series because of a poor adaption, they're usually not going to think "Oh, let me see if this is an adaption of another material and see if the original was better." They're going to think, "This series is terrible, I'm not going to waste my time on it anymore."

S2 already lost a portion of the fanbase when it ended up being a rather lacking adaption compared to S1 and made some questionable story decisions. Luckily, Mamare is a bit of a repetitive writer so important plot points that were cut out in S2 can still be made up for in S3 with little trouble (I hope), but the handling of S2 doesn't exactly inspire a lot of confidence.

Along with a new OP from a different band/artist, there is a new ED from a different artist.

"Blue Horizon" by Miyu Oshiro.

Side note:
Today (Nov. 23rd) is Shiroe's birthday. Sadly, there's really nothing to "commemorate" it like what they did with Akatsuki earlier this year. But regardless; Happy Birthday Mr. Villain in Glasses.

Aw, boo. I like Database. New opening looks good, but the new song is serious trash tier.
