The performance at the end was alright.

I like how girls took action to make videos and promote their school. As I had expected, Yohane's brief moments always take my attention even if it's just a few brief moments.

So they do have "Save the school" plot here. Only that it's not that dramatic cause a school can just combine with another.

A bit of light on 3rd years past... did Kanan have a stage fright? All of the drama seems to be revolving around her.

My kokoro is absolutely bursting with rainbows and happy vibes.

Chika's immediate reaction to the school on the verge of closing down was totally appropriate and hilarious. Her also trying to re-create the formula of the OGs and failing at it was great (thank you, Mari) and definitely something I was hoping that they would fail at. This town has the advantage of community, and it was something Chika realized and capitalized on it. Good for her and Aquors! But shout out for shooting in 4K, though.

The animated reactions of this series also have to be commended. Riko's reactions to dogs, Yohane's fallen angel, and Zuramaru's reactions to modern technology are so cute, funny and cartoony. They definitely go toe-to-toe to Umi's priceless faces.

But let's be real here. The juiciest parts of this episode were the scenes with the 3rd years. We're getting closer and closer to the truth. The small flashbacks here pretty much quadruple confirm that they created a little idol trio, and their friendship has gone as far back when they were kida. As they were about to perform one day, something happened (probably no one showing up to the show) and now they're all kinda distant from one another. I find their relationship the most interesting right now since....we've rarely seen them on the same screen at the same time. I was most curious about Dia and Kanaan's relationship since Dia seems to care for her according to Mari. The one time we see them together was at the beach, but they didn't talk on-screen at all.

Can't wait for the next episode.

#lovelive_sunshine is also sitting at 86k tweets trending in Japan.

This is an episode that unveils itself over time. Chika took the news of Uranohoshi closing down almost too well until Mari gave her an implied reality check that even Chika knew she couldn't question. The 3rd year drama has gradually burned in the background until the moment Chika sees Dia practicing on stage and Ruby talks to her about it. There should be more to the next episode than just Tokyo though because if there is a time to go deep into the 3rd year drama, it's next episode. Sunshine!! is now at an impasse they must commit to

It also helps everyone had a different reaction to the news of Uranohoshi possibly closing down, and in many ways it makes sense for the 3rd years to be most affected by it

As for reusing this plotline (what, you thought I was going to avoid the elephant in the room?), there's enough new story elements that it isn't being a rehash at the moment. Where the situation itself becomes the backdrop for something else

Loved their latest song "Yume de Yozora o Terashitai" that's so soothing to hear, coupled with their cute outfits and the lanterns flying up on this week's episode!

Now then, instead of Ohara's family buying up Uranohoshi Academy and demolish it in favor of expanding Awashima Hotel as I previously speculated, looks like the school is being threatened of merging with another high school in Numazu City in which reminds me of Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight. After all, both Manabi Straight and Love Live! are both published by ASCII Media Works.

Meanwhile, I'd say that Dia Kurosawa, Mari Ohara, and Kanan Matsuura have a history of being school idols during their first year. While they have a falling out in the past, let's hope that they'll return and join Aqours in the future.

It was absolutely amazing, both the song and the cinematography.

Anyway, damn you Sunrise, you did use the school closing down plot. Yet strangely I didn't really feel like it's the main push here, as the history of the 3rd years feels far more important, as Mari points out their relationship with each other and why she wants to keep the school open.

Chika though... I didn't expect that sort of reaction from her, but that's BakaChika for you. The Kurosawa sisters again showcase that they do understand each other on an emotional level, enough so that Ruby asked Chika not to prod Dia any further into becoming a school idol until Dia sorted out whatever it is that's eating her up.

No Riko meme moments but you have to laugh when she's even freaking out to a puppy. I do wonder what happen though with Riko and Shiitake in their room. It suddenly cut to Riko waking up from a nightmare or something.

Next episode: Country bumpkins going to the big city! Tokyo!

Could be, but it's basically merging a small school with a bigger one and it's closer to the city. Some like the idea, while the other's, aren't so much. Yohane especially.

Oh my god, a group song I don't fell utter indifference towards! Besides Start: Dash, that is. But really, that was a pretty good one, and I liked the outfits as well.

Another good episode, once again with just the right Muse love, at least after Ruby's Hanayo impression Again, I don't really mind the school plot coming into play, because things still feel quite different, mainly because of the third years: I was honestly surprised with that first flashback, and the second one pretty much confirms what happened to them... but I won't say anything yet, since some people around here might not have figured it out yet. And Kanan seems to be the center of it all as well, so she isn't being angsty just because, it just hit her the hardest. I'm really liking this buildup, now to look forward to when Dia and Kanan's stories properly connect, and hopefully lead to one hell of a payoff. Hopefully with Ruby going face to face with Dia, because I like seeing her being determined.

On nicer stuff:
YO-shiko Oh, You. I'm glad this episode painted her as someone who loves joking around. Hopefully we get more of that.
Maru is still awesome, and was so even in kindergarden.
On a related note, we now know Yohane's switch
Of course, the fallen angel was also awesome, even if she can't pedal that much
Thank you for making me notice Yohane is actually pretty stacked, Sunrise
Oh, Riko is just afraid of dogs in general. Goodness, what a sheltered city girl.
Chika's initial reaction to the closure news, while predictable, was also appropiate for a Muse fangirl.
I like how these quiet moments between Chika and Riko are a thing, and not just for shipping purposes, it feels nice.
Once again, keeping the fans close, only this time it isn't just the school, its the whole damn town. A distinctive touch for Aqours' story.

I love having so many funny little bits in each episode. I honestly think sunshine is doing it better than the original. Now to see if it can do the same with a field trip-like episode.

nice episode. the earlier part made me pause and cringe especially when the school closing down plot was thrown. I was halfway thrown the mouse too. Its like they are throwing it directly in your face. The copy paste plot from the original. but even if it has the same plot. the characters and how its been treated is not the same. I was LOL'ed when I see the reaction of Chika towards the closing down she was ecstatic instead of depress. LOL. They tried the PV but it failed at first but in the end. It ended up fantastically.

Totally loved the ending song. The dress is elegant and the flying lantern background is romantic. Its beautiful.

yo ... shiko !
ohayosoro !
oh you

so we didn't get a meme of the week moment, too bad it was cut

i really laughed at chika's reaction to the closing, i just saw it coming from a miles away

i'm glad dia is being a little less buthurt and more accepting towards aquours and ruby's implication in it, it was starting to piss me off a little.

one thing i like for now about sunshine is that i like all the girls about the same. ruby and dia a little less than the other, and kannan i can't say because not enough screen time, but all the other i like them.

still hanamaru x yoshiko and riko x chika quirks make me laugh every-time. liked the yohane switch with the feather

Hmmm, was it Angelic Angel or did Dia simply do some traditional dance moves, I wonder.

Anyway. Let's start machine gun commentary:

Chikabomb!

Chika channeling Honoka in a weird way!

You being all mischievious to Riko! Dat evil grin.

Yohane still singing in Yoshiko voice!

Kanan! ...in a wetsuit...? Huh.

And hey, isn't it the first time Dia left Mari surprised both in anime and in audio dramas?
Maru is so dreamy.
Ganbaruby!

The plot point that everyone and their mother criticized to death is the least cringeworthy Muse parallel in the series. For me, at least.

Third years plot thickens!

That song is so gooooooood.

I'm done.

I really like the sisterly dynamic between Dia and Ruby. That's very nice, and well-handled.

The 3rd years' drama was pushed forward well in this episode, though I hope we get a more thorough flashback in a future episode. I'm surprised at how calm/mature Mari came across in this episode. Not yet sure how I feel about it, but on the positive side it could bring some good balance to this group.

I think I see where they're going with Chika specifically, and while I have mixed feelings on it, it's almost working for me. In other words, it's almost there for me, and if it gets there, I may well love it. The new school closure plot is much the same. I can understand people on either side of it, but I intend to wait and see what they do with it before taking a strong stance on it either way.

Yoshiko and Chika bring some amusing theatrics, that's typically fun to watch. Hanamaru and Yoshiko have excellent friendship chemistry.

Unlike some people on this thread, I wasn't particularly impressed with the live performance. Actually, for me, that might be Sunshine's biggest weakness so far - the live performances haven't won me over as much as I was hoping for. The Episode 3 live performance might have been excellent if it wasn't interrupted, but that interruption hurt it a lot for me. My feelings on this episode's live performance are much the same as Stark700's - It was alright, but nothing special. I'm honestly a little surprised at how much some people here seem to love it. The costumes were a little on the plain side for this franchise, and the song didn't have a lot of jump to it for me. As for the choreography, characters are nicely in-synch, but their movements are very slow, almost lethargic-seeming. Even as a guy who often appreciates LL songs with slow and delicate movements over more fast-paced LL songs, this looked a little too slow and easy to me.

The good thing is that, for me, there is a silver lining here. Aqours has a lot of room to grow and improve, in my eyes. After their huge early Episode 3 success, I was afraid things would come too easy for them, but in my eyes, they have a lot of growing/developing to do, and that's actually a good thing for me. That being said, I really hope the next Aqours live performance truly wins me over.

Thumbs up

The characters play off each other really well and it comes out so naturally. They make it a point to get everybody as much attention as possible without losing a step. I like the way they went about the whole school story line. They are aware of Muse's deeds and it didn't work out for them. lol So they changed it up and made it a goal for the community to help their cause.

I really like the performance and how somber and yet, uplifting it turn out. It was more like a calming and inviting song that felt right due to the confusion and uncertainty of how they were trying to save the school which could coincide with the 3rd years inner turmoil. There's actually a lot of depth here.

They just had to look around and see the town for what it is and it gave them the inspiration to setup the PV that would best express their wishes to save the school.

In most Asian cultures, those Lanterns are symbols for wishes while the lyrics went even further with lines like "the sights that made us who we are" and "let's light up the night sky".

This song was about their appreciation for their hometown and the support from the community who wants to help them in any way. In this case, it was about them getting help to save their school from merging. This is why the new girl, Riko asked about this local event that brought everyone there; even the 3rd years.

Quick Confession:

The biggest tragedy (design wise) is Chika not being introduced with the red bow from the start. That little accessory changes her whole look and appeal.

By the way, I like how Yohane still poses knowing that she's probably exhausted and her "Demon Queen" laugh is amazing. lol

Spoiler for 3rd Year Theory:

She does, but the major focus is on her thighs.
Rightfully so, since she inherited that "Unique Gift" (aka Rare LL fanservice) from Maki along with her eyes, arm folding, and etc.
If Yohane starts playing with her hair... uh oh.

It's no Korekara Someday, but it's all in the lyrics. It's a song fill with heartfelt thanks, and the melody has that quality that if it's played by itself, it will strike a lot of emotions in a lot of people. Something like muse's Sentimental Steps if you've heard that song. All in all though it's in the cinematography. You can't tell me when at that moment when we see Aqours name spelled with the lanterns on the beach then seeing it released into the sky was not magical in anyway?

As for the costumes being "plain", it's ironic considering the whole episode had Chika trying to find out what's good about her town, only to find out that it's rather "plain", and it's the people that what makes their little town special. In fact the costumes so far has been plain, and I feel it's plain for a reason. And it would be easy for all the cosplayers to create.

And the dancing? Well it fits the mood, and I imagine it will give the seiyuu's some relief when they are performing it in their live concerts. Can't have too many high paced dances.

As for the 3rd years drama, I saw this on my twitter feed that sounds funny and convincing.

The most exciting thing about this episode was Hanamaru, Riko and a 5.1ch 4k video camera. That transition to the insert song at the end was done very bad, it went from night to day so suddenly and caught me off guard, but the song and performance was good.
