The latest episode had the best change from the manga so far. The fact nobleman did not plan for the t-rex to kill him in this version.

I never liked how he technically went unpunished in the manga.

The fat guy didn't plan on getting killed in the LN either. He was unceremoniously squashed all the same though.

He was portrayed as more competent though. He solo'd the entire party before he fell. Naofumi even commented that his level must have been very high, to the point where he must have had a class-up.

The manga changed from the LN though, in it he wanted the t-rex to kill him so that the seal could not be remade.

People complained about how dismal Raphtalia's life was portrayed in the anime, but honestly they changed that a good bit. In the manga she took her parents' words too much to heart and became unable to stop smiling, a broken, hopeless smile but a smile nonetheless. Even when they came in, picked Rifana up by the arm and shook her, cursed at her for dying on them and tossed her to the side she remained smiling. Only when she was told that the village had been completely destroyed, every last building toppled so there's nowhere left to return did all the cumulative trauma destroy that grimace. And in the early chapters it took her a LONG time to smile again.

Frankly I feel like her parents' lesson was a bad one. You need to teach your kids to cry when it's needed as much as you need to teach them to smile.

I have to say, the longer I think about this episode the more it bugged me that they made the guy be an idiot and trip and fall out of the window.

Instead of, you know, holding the entire party at bay and being pushed out of the window by Raphtalia. After which Naofumi would then try to tell her that she did nothing wrong.

Like can't a heroine even be allowed to kill in self defense anymore? I mean the guy didn't even die anyway. He survived to summon the T-Rex all the same.

Yeah, that Fat Dude was apparently tough and had a cursed whip. They should have kept Raph's characterization, because he had it coming.

Episode 16 looks quite good but the best part of that preview is Fitoria, she looks so good and cute, they really nailed her design.

The Light Novel implied that the reason that demi humans don't talk to Naofumi is because Naofumi himself told them not to. ("Get away from me! Leave me alone!")

After episode 16 I'm not so sure that we have enough time to deal with all the content that comes after the church arc, episode 17 should be filo vs fitoria then 2 more to end the church arc and with that we have only 5 episodes left for the Island, I can see a lot of material being rushed here.

They really only need 4. 1 for the journey there and meeting Scythe Bro, 1 for the activation event, 1 for preparations and the first part of the wave, and 1 for the final battle.

I don't really like the changes they did to Keel's character.

Last episode they made Keel too talkative and trusting towards the Shield Hero. And now this episode Keel ask Raphtalia to follow Shield Hero without worrying. There is no part of Keel's initial distrusting character nor Keel's childish behavior towards Raphtalia from the LN and Manga.

They also made Raphtalia more lean towards her friends rather than Naofumi (in both LN and Manga, Raphtalia started to chose Naofumi first without any question, and then later worried or chose others).

Sad that they didn't have Naofumi's comment about Fitoria having no problem eating the dragon after her hole lecture against using dragons to power the shield up.

Yep, after that preview Fitoria vs Filo to get her status of the new queen confirmed and after that dealing with the church for about 2 episodes including the birth of Bitch then straight into the Island.

It would be nice if there is a second season.

I don't know what the LN is doing, but the anime as been consistent with there being two shield heroes previously; the one from the ruins and the one that nurtured fitoria.
