First season was one of the top 10 Kadokawa anime in 2021 that generated most revenue worldwide, so not surprised it got another season. When I first saw this data, I expected it would get another season.

I can't believe this garbage sells enough to warrant another season

I'm not as much surprised it's getting a second season despite being critically reviled, given commercially it seemed to (somehow) do well, but I can't quite see myself watching it again unless they dramatically improve the production and story .

I don't think it was "reviled" if people bought copies of it.

Anyway, seeing the massive amounts of salt flowing from people who were surprised about the announcement got me pretty vindictive.

The title managed to be one of Top 5 LN Sold 2021 in Japan, above Classroom of the Elite.

So even if its not part of Top 5 Anime Sales Boost (No. 9 as shown by chart above), odds to get second season is quite high.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh?!

I thought I was never going to hear anything about this again. It feels like the worse a show is, the more likely it is to get a second season these days.

Pfffffffffffff, lol. This was such a bad anime.
But I guess it is funny that Kadokawa is doing so bad, this is apparently on its top 10 or something for anime

The anime is said to be the adaption of the award winning novel. Some guy who read the novel said he liked the writing style.

The anime sale of last season was quite horrible, and people has been saying the industry is dying for decades.

Perhaps it is much ado about nothing, I don't remember exactly about the story. Based on the cover picture, I think the story is about the white hair bob cut girl walking side by side with the black long hair girl. The white hair girl kicks the black hair girl's butt with her left leg. The black hair girl kicks back.

People always dunk on this anime so much, it's hard to remember it actually sold pretty well, so no surprise it got another season. I guess I'll give it another go around, seeing as I started reading the LN.

It’s BD sales in Japan that was horrible, but the anime generated revenue from other things like licensing rights, streaming sites, etc. These days BD sales in Japan is no longer an indicator of how successful an anime is. As shown in the data I posted earlier, it was one of the Top 10 Kadokawa anime with most worldwide video revenue in 2021 after all.

The sales can be horrible and still be top 10 though?
It just has to be the 10 least horrible

I'll admit to being surprised. The first season...was kind of dull. It just seemed very confused.

But hey, money is money. If it helped the novels sell more and at least sold decently in terms of BDs then I guess that's how it goes.

Regardless though, I'll likely pass on season 2. I made it through season 1, but only barely. Can't expect enough in season 2 to get me to actually keep up with it.

I feel like people tend to forget that Japanese usually tend to support their local market better at least compared to overseas market. So that's why series westerners or rather overseas people may not like doesn't matter to their local business there as long as their local people support it. That's why most media focuses mainly on their local market. It's not how the international people view it, it's how their local people view it.
A series not well received internationally but well received locally in Japan can get a sequel. Vice versa, a series not well received in Japan but well received internationally may not get a sequel.

Apparently that was actually the case for "In Another World with my Smartphone" (and it got a season 2) .

I think Elite Classroom got its sequels thanks to China, or something like that I heard. Another questionable decision, but the sequel they got, for better or worse

That's why i said may not get a sequel. How many series you can think that fit into this category like the series you mentioned?

I'd say this can be considered outlier cause it's highly probably one of the studios invested money for that.
