Osama Bin Laden is dead.
I'm splitting this off of the News thread to keep it from being too derailed.
As many know, and the rest will find out soon, it was announced that Osama died, killed in battle fighting US troops. As a general warning for the thread, please keep the discussion civil. Any attempts to stir up trouble will be dealt with swiftly and harshly. Follow the forum rules, and don't let your emotions earn you a ban. Thank you.

Yea, It will be interesting to see how our military undertakes the missions against the organization now. Not to mention the larger Middle East strategy which thanks to the Arab Awakening and supposed Hamas-Fatah union is now all out the window.

Anywho and on a more serious note, I meeting this news rather neutrally. On the one hand, dead scum. On the other hand, this'll stoke the fires of nationalism and help justify the jingoism the US higher-ups call the War on Terror and generally making things worse for everyone involved. |

More importantly, I am extremely curious of what is going to happen with the war in Afghanistan and Libya.
I also wonder what sort of political ramifications his death will create. As we all know this president has many political enemies that have done everything possible to diminish his image. What will Mr Donald Trump try to do to recapture the eyes of the media for example? Will this accomplishment appease the birthers? Oh man so many questions! |

Produce it as proof for those that ask, then probably give him a funeral...though I suppose we would send him back to his family in Saudi Arabia...if they still want him.
A trophy doesn't sound like a good idea. Makes it seem like he won if he will never be forgotten (like if they stuffed him into the Freedom Building in New York as evidance of America rebuilding or something along those lines). He isn't classed as a world leader, so I hope this doesn't get China and Russia even more paranoid about the Americans going into countries to exterminate what we consider a problem.

1. have anything to do with him and 2. isn't wanted by the US military. I would have preferred if he was caught alive. But I guess he isn't the type to surrender.
