Hah, funny you guys are discussing the star fort now, since I just got back from visiting one of the few star fort ruins still intact in Japan. The Goryoukaku fort in Hakodate, Hokkaido.
Famous for being the location where Shinsen-gumi leader Hijikata Toshizo made his last stand.
