Well, I am hoping the translation work they do on the Bluray Release, is good. Now if this is a series worth buying, the season will tell. But anything to get around or stick it to Harmony Gold, the better.

If this were SMS, the correct response would be, "Mirage reports Hayate's insubordination to her superiors and gets his ass canned so fast the door doesn't have time to hit it on his way out." I hope we don't have to put up with Hayate's 'independence' for too long before someone slaps some responsibility into him.

You mean NUNS, SMS while disciplined is more lax in their handling of their personel than NUNS.

Be that as it may, i don't think either SMS or NUNS would be too impressed by that kind of attitude. Putting up with eccentrics is one thing, but thus far it sounds like Hayate only wants to learn the parts of the job he enjoys and not the parts that protect his teammates' lives- unless combat isn't one of the 'non-flying' things that Mirage is assigned to teach him, which seems unlikely given the job's responsibilities.

Hmm... it just occurred to me: though it seems rather unlikely, given the number of kids they had, what if Mirage is Max and Milia's only grandchild? I would not want to be in Hayate's shoes if Mirage ever had reason to bring the Grandparental Eye of Sauron to bear upon the object of her love/frustration.
