Haha that's awesome. No such problems in my copy of the original, funnily enough.
It's also a shame that the English translations have to make the text bubbles bigger. The one in that English version is covering up half of Ukijima.

All the same, I'm glad I can read the original. To me, a scanlation is almost as bad as a dub in anime. At least with an anime sub, you still have the original Japanese voices to hear their tone of voice and such. With a scanlation, it's like watching with the audio turned off.

There's always a tug-of-war between just admitting that manga (in english translations) is always going to be a niche product and charge accordingly.... and continuing to try and take manga "into the mainstream Big Sale Numbers category".
"All honorifics left in check, not westernised, and certain key phrases left untranslated with translations in the side." I'd add leave the food words alone as well

The only way i can see manga going mainstream and worth big bucks, is if they totaly westernise it. Like they did with the original Dark Angel manga, and the original AMG comics. But that has more flaws in it than it would gains. And i wonder how many people would support it, or just switch over to scanlations instead.

I can't say I'm terribly sympathetic to "consumers" who want everything spoonfed to them. If they're interested in foreign works, they should be at least marginally able to tolerate the idea of learning a few cultural bits to better appreciate those works.
So aye... I'm on board with your principles of translation .

You have to admit though, there are some series that will NEVER go mainstream and ARIA's probably one of them. If it's any indication, it still doesn't have its own subsection in the forums despite having 1 manga, 3 anime seasons, 1 OAV, and at least 1 PS2 videogame.

I'm actually a bit miffed now. Wolf and Spice has it's own forum, but Aria dosent. Whats up with that? Aria deserves it's own forum more than the likes of Wolf and spice. (not saying W&S isn't good, just saying Aria is more deserving)
