Well something exciting just happened.

Spoiler for Major spoilers!:

Roboute Guilliman aka Big Papa Smurf is back and is leading the Imperium.
So how did this happened? Here's what happened before Guilliman woke up.

* Magnus and the Thousand Sons take revenge against the Space Wolves for burning their homeworld by attacking theirs and exposing the existence of the Wulfen to the Inquisition.
* Eldrad Ulthran and the Harlequins perform a ritual to give birth to Ynnead, the Eldar God of Death, without having all of the Eldar dying. This does not please most of the Eldar Council since Eldrad did it behind their backs and worse the ritual is interrupted by the Deathwatch, seemingly ruining the summoning or so it seems.
* The 13th Black Crusade begins (the previous 13th Crusade has been retconned) but instead of ending in failure, it succeeds! Despite an alliance between Lord Creed of the Imperial Guard, Saint Celestine of the Sisters of Battle, Inquisitor Katarinya Greyfax, Archmagos Dominus Belisarius Cawl of the Adeptus Mechanicus, several Space Marine Chapters and Trazyn the Infinite of the Necrons, Cadia falls and Creed sacrifices himself to allow the survivors to escape but is hinted to be rescued by someone.
* At the same time, Ynnead is finally born at the cost of Craftworld Biel-tan. Ynnead's first followers, Yvraine and the Visarch, preaches to the all of the Eldar factions they now have a chance to defeat Slaanesh which convinces many Eldar to join them. This new faction, the Ynnari, is not well like and trusted by some Eldar since they don't use Seers to see the future and some question if Ynnead is actually a Chaos Daemon.
* The survivors of Cadia find themselves on another planet and are ambushed by the Black Legion but are saved by the Ynnari. Since Cadia has fallen, allowing Abaddon and his forces to invade the galaxy unopposed, the survivors of Cadia and the Ynnari join forces.
* Thanks to the help of the Cawl, Yvraine, the Grey Knights and Cypher and the Fallen, Guilliman is finally healed and awakens from stasis. Despite how disgusted he is on what the Imperium has become after 10,000 years, he now leads the Imperium in it's darkest hour.

Spoiler: Nice to see a loyalist primarch return! Though I see this as more of an escalation. With Guilliman back that means the Daemon Primarchs will probably be stepping it up as well
