And you have no choice but to have your sins chase you all the way to the end, even when you're nothing more than a delirious elderly man who no one loves anymore. His story was depressing beyond belief.
He suffered a lot, but he also managed to spend several decades living a peaceful and happy life with his wife before his past caught up to him. And in the end, he was able to die as a warrior thanks to Hijikata. It wasn't all bad.

Imo, that's what makes it even sadder. He was actually able to find happiness but it was ultimately doomed because of a past he could never run away from. The only decent part of his life was still tainted with the agony of regret he would then spend yet more years living through. And in the end his only solace is that he dies in a specific but still violent manner. Imagine what kind of cursed life you have to have being happy dying violently.

To think even that guy was once kind of sane. Or some convincing imitation thereof.

Given his reaction to his family's death, I figured Hasegawa would be someone important, but I never thought it would be him.

So in the end, this episode was a Tsurumi flashback. I didn't see that coming.

Now the question is, was Tsurumi crazy before this or is this the event that started his madness?

Going by past seasons there are only two more episodes. I hope the production committee remains committed to adapting more of the manga. Obviously there is still a lot of ground to cover even if Sugimoto and Asirpa are reunited at the end of this cour. Most pieces I read about the show suggest it is quite popular in Japan so I'm optimistic.

The anime has come such a long way. The tiger wasn't CGI!

I was wondering why Kiroranke thought Asirpa meeting Sofia would make her remember something important, and it actually worked. It felt like a coincidence though. Anyway, Asirpa seems to know how to decipher the tattoos now, and Ogata is the only one who has noticed she went "Eureka!". I sense another betrayal from him.

I think there's little question. It's quite surprising to me how popular the anime is here, much more unlikely than the manga being popular.

Shiraishi almost ran out of luck there.

This anime is very popular in Japan, the problem is that it together with Akudama Drive are transmitted exclusively in Streaming FOD, unlike the vast majority of the anime of the season that come out in dozens of different streamings and one of them (Docomo) makes popularity rankings daily and weekly and as Golden Kamuy does not appear in these rankings some people think that the series is not popular (When these rankings are translated for us), but rather look at the official twitter of the anime production committee and you see that it is the opposite: https://twitter.com/kamuy_anime

Just to give you an idea the OVA that came with the special volume of the last volume of the manga sold almost 20,000 copies.
