Yeah, I guess the author must have forgotten - he gets confused very frequently throughout the series, e.g. consistently saying that Nie Li is at 1* gold-rank when he was at 2* (he even makes that mistake in the chapter when Nie Li goes from 2* to 3* - the chapter is even titled "3* gold rank"). There were also a few times early on where he mistakenly called Ye Zi Yun "Lin Zi Yan", which is the name of the heroine of his other series Shen Wen Dao.

I've read most of Shen Wen Dao, and man that series was the freaking worst. It was fantastic for like 5, 600 chapters, and then all of a sudden - BOOM - the main character's personality changes and he makes enemies out of all the heroines for no reason. That made me hate the series sooooo much. So much wasted time invested in that series -_-

Ning Er doesn't really react that much. She was at home at the time, and either her father or the family head announced it (can't remember which), but they basically told her that it was still a long way out and that she still had a chance. Xiao Xue even gave her some sort of aphrodisiac or something to "win him over" with, but she obviously turned it down. The entire thing is pretty downplayed, even when it comes to Nie Li himself or Ye Zi Yun. They're far too preoccupied with the current events of the story to really have any time to spend worrying about the engagement.

Sacred Family is pretty much annihilated, a handful survived, though I can't remember which ones exactly. They're bit characters now, as far as the story is concerned; this basically even includes the Dark Guild as well. The scope of power in the story took a real jump with the introduction of Yu Yan, so characters at the level of Legend are sort of the default now. (In the most recent chapter, Nie Li just killed two demons at the peak of Legend-rank. He personally stands at 3* Black Gold-rank.)*

*Technically, calling them the peak of Legend-rank is a bit deceptive, even if that's the phrasing the author uses, since the "real" peak of Legend-rank is the sub-Divine rank, i.e. those who would be able to step into the ranks of the Divine Spirits - and Destiny-rank - if it weren't for the fact that the element they've mastered is already the dominion of an existing Divine Spirit.

Have you ever read LMS's adaptations? It's honestly pretty damn good. It's not as good as the original by a far stretch, but it has extra details and it reads a bit differently. It's also completely in color and is pretty detailed concerning the important parts of the story.

I think Manga adaptations of LN's usually aren't very good, and I haven't read many other manhua adaptations, so I don't really have a general sense of their quality. But the reason why this is usually true is simple to think about... LN's are often good because they have more monologues, descriptions, and clever use of written techniques to get humor, excitement, or whatever feelings across. Mangas can't do that, because people are mainly expecting pictures to be used instead, and even though pictures equal a thousand words, that's only true when those words are trying to describe how something looks or feels, not when they're part of a monologue.
