I think it's more him recognizing the voice. We, as the audience, didn’t see her either the first time, but I recognized her voice immediately.

We have the unfair advantage of having known ahead of time that he rewinds every time he dies. For him all he knew is that he was dying (which does really bad things to one's sanity, I understand), and he saw whatshername die, and then an instant later it was daylight and he was out on the middle of the street, unhurt. Yes, several events going forward from there seemed to be repeats of events that had already happened (or that had to have happened when he wasn't around before), but he seemed to be avoiding trying to think to hard about it. Each time something came up I think he may have been subconsciously trying to suppress the knowledge that whatshername had died with a "huh, that's weird. Wellp, better get the insignia back!"

One bit that was left out in the anime is that in Subaru internal monologue during that scene he also felt responsible causing Felt and Rom deaths which also acted partial motivation for facing her.
I suppose technically he did, that time around, but given that Rom, at least, was dead the first time Subaru came to the house, crazy lady was going to kill him (and possibly both of them) anyway.

Well this is an interest anime so far and it's now on my watch list.

The animation and characters are pure eye candy and so far the characters are somewhat interesting. I'm assuming this anime is going to be a more darker and grim version of Konosuba?

Wow, I never heard a cold blooded and sadistic killer Mamiko Noto before. She does Elsa's role very nicely and she needs to do more of these characters. It's also nice to see Emilia's seiyu get a main role as she did quite a nice job voicing for Megumin in Konosuba. At first I thought Maaya Uchida was voicing for Emilia, but I was wrong.

I admit that is also pretty interesting. She still sounds like her distinctive self, but there's definitely a note of evil in that voice that I don't remember hearing from Mamiko Noto ever before.

I figured they'll take less time with the first arc, so was a little surprised at the slow pacing.
Nicely done, the conversations and Subaru were irritating, not to mention him being stupid, all carried over pretty well.

But I am very impressed with this series and I cant wait to see more.
His character flaws are intentional, think Tweleve Kingdoms.

This seems really interesting.

Why was that the "reset" point, doe? Talking with the "appa" man.

But it might be on the Blu-Ray if we are lucky.

Who knows. But it will probably get frustrating for Subaru to meet that guy every single time...

Couldn't just be when he first popped into that world. Nope, it's going to be about the appas....every time...for eternity!

I reaaaaly doubt it. If they would want to add anything to BD, they would use that good, old black bars censorship there.

7 light novels published, which hasn't caught up with the webnovel.
The light novels are currently in arc 3, whereas the web novel is in arc 6.

There's no lack of material for the anime, just lack of time.
I hope the anime can cover all of arc 3, and not leave us hanging in the middle.

I like going into a series with 0 expectations, it makes being surprised like this fun. I truly enjoyed this ep and can't wait for the next one.

Well darn, I'm loving it. It met my expectations but still censoring but still bloody and at some point! The characters look poorly drawn but still beautiful when it counts. I hope it didn't go up in down during production.

Totally love the story.as for those asked info for the story, there is a we novel thread in the web novel section. The light novel is licensed which is why the translation for it stopped.

I doubt Subaru recognized his death either. He though it's all a dream. He's not died. Nobody's killed him. That girl's not dangerous. No ?

What even was censored? Or do you really want to see his guts spilling out in detail? I mean, we already got the point across with them mentioning it and there were no black bars either.

Yes, but unironicaly. Just being alive sound like pretty good proof of not getting killed. Plus I am pretty sure being in denial us natural defense mechanism of human brain.

Yea I liked that it smashed his delusions in the beginning but something in me tells me that it would have been better if we didn't have to go through a laundry list of cliches just to smash them for the first episode.

Hopefully the future episodes feature less subversion and put in some less clichéd scenes and dialogue.

Episode 1
This was interesting. Lol just like Kazuma (Konosuba), Subaru also expected to become the overpowered protagonist upon entering the fantasy world with bishoujous around him. But things don't happen like that and he gets beat up by some guys, gets ignored by a passing by loli almost gets ignored by a bishoujou, doesn't have money, it's nothing like what he expected.

So Satella lost something and Subaru helps her out. But things take a wrong turn and he ends up dying and then going into the past. Only he remembers what happened in the different time-line but since he's new to this stuff, he doesn't know that no one else remembers anything because those events never happened. He has discovered that someone is after Satella, but he doesn't know what to do about that. There is something more to Satella since when Subaru called her name in the end she told him not to call her by the name of the jealous witch (or something like that).

The reviving in the past part after dying was interesting. If something goes wrong in the future, Subaru can always kill himself and go back and fix things. He'll have to make Satella and the other girl(s) who would be around him believe this though.
