Elfen Lied Manga

Elfen Lied has been the first anime ever to yearn looking forward to a continuation through means of reading the manga.

I was and still being uncomfortable and displeased not only with how the closure was wrapped in the end but also with how the main characters were left unfinished and isolated from certain situations that the manga successfully describes and took the time to pull through.

In the anime thread I posted if it was possible for Diclonius to strive for an individual personality, to grasp hold of a dream or have illusions about something they want to accomplish, for example, earning and living an ordinary life like a commoner human-like.

I'm profoundly grateful that Okamoto-sensei did touch upon the humane nature of Diclonus, specifically Lucy's.

You see, around chapter 49 of volume 6 from the manga, Lucy got the fever. Like happens in episode 8 of the anime and relives the memory when she met the puppy. However, in that part for the manga, Lucy behaved more friendly and sweeter toward Kouta while he was treating her; she grasped hold of his hand caressing it, but that sweet detail was left out during that particular scene around episode 8 of the anime.

Another thing that occurs is

that Lucy daydreams or fantasizes about what if her destiny would had been different, dreaming about spending a date with Kouta on the night of the festival during their childhood days.

Here's the evidence that proves it:

Tiny and humane details like that scene make me love the manga a hundred times fold than the anime.


For the anime, those slack-off animators only depicted Lucy's image as that of a vicious, cold-blooded murderer at most times; her grumpy/grouchy, psycho face with the schizo eyes. Except for her childhood flashback and quite a few in-between moments with Kouta, they did not bother to bring out forth her humane until the last episode for the anime when she apologizes to Kouta. However, even at that time, she's unable to deliver all out her rage, sadness, frustration, melancholy, grief, sorrow, love, and newly-found happiness.

Although, I won't neglect that the last anime episode did built a forte to bring forth the humane aspects of the main protagonists.

Have in an undefined future a second season ever comes it can become likeable that the animators decide to explore the characters and their relationships with emotions, just as Okamoto-sensei does in the manga.

And yes, I support both you, slayer, and dreamless for a second season. A plot such intricate and emotionally manipulative like Elfen Lied has worthy potential to study broad.

wait, I'm confused, they've only hosted 16 chapters but you're all goin on about chapter 85 and stuff, I'm sorry for acting n00bish but can someone pm/email me how many chapters/vols there are and if all of them have been released by Evil Genius or not, sorry, but I'd be very grateful if someone made this clearer to me

Oh, how stupid! I did not expressed myself.

Evil-Genius has done and been releasing scanlations for the manga, as also Got-Nyu.

Evil-Genius since Friday has released the scanlation for chapter 16 of the manga.

In Japan, chapter 85 was released this month.
Chapters that are released in Japan are in raw Japanese.

Evil-Genius and Got-Nyu make scanlations of the manga in English.

Evil Genius:
Vo1 -- chapters 1 to 7 plus special
Vol2 -- chapters 8 to 16, until now

Got Nyu:
Vol1 -- chapters 1 to 7 plus special
Vol2 -- chapters 8 to 10, until now

All I can say is to put the two (and RAWS if you have it) side by side and judge for yourself.

Volume 2 RAWS are lower qualities and darker in general, so you can see the differences in leveling. Also compare quality of editing, reconstruction, typesetting, sfx, notes (if any).

Colour inserts are another area you can see the difference in quality easily. Evil Genius has Volume 2 colour inserts in Ch10 while Got-Nyu? has it in Ch8.

Old man Kaguzawa revealed that he has 3 horns and spoke about the history of his kinds. How they were hunted down by the Samurai of anicient Japan, forced to go into retreat on that Island,etc to Nyuu. On top of that, he revealed the fact about Lucy to her and how she is born to kill......

On Nana's side, She is confronted about how nobody will love her after hearing what the crazed Kurama say about her being a Guinea Pig. And she kidnapped him from his shack and went into the forest.

Then we have the pocky addict who has more or less turned good after being saved by the Mariko Clones. He sort of feel guilty about doing stuffs to them and therefore release the mind control unit from Babara,so that she can have complete control over her will. But Babara isn't all that happy when she's aware of what's going on and decapitated Nousou.

Correction:

Vo1 (incomplete) -- chapters 3 to 7 MINUS special

Fuan did Chapter 1 & chapter 2 with Korean RAWS (no colour inserts). Evil Genius skipped over Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 even though the much better Japanese RAWS are available. Evil Genius also skipped over Volume 1 Special.

So the Diclonius are indeed not really natural evolutions, but aliens in origin, and it turns out that the current breed of Diclonius are indeed more or less some kind of BOWs. Hmm... has the author stolen these ideas from me?

I don't think the Diclonius are really 'aliens' in origin (at least not from outer space), where exactly did you conclude that from? Kakuzawa doesn't say such a thing as far as I understood his speech in chapter 86. Personally I'd think it would be rather lame if that was really the case, natural evolution sounds much more plausible if you ask me. And what are BOWs?

I think those lines that Kakuzawa quoted are something like an UFO encounter, so the ancestors of the Diclonius came to Earth around 1000 years ago, while they had super psychic powers at first, their powers waned as mating with humans, and they were hunted by humans as demons. BOWs means bio-organic weapons.
