Going by the words of the Queen, we now know who have a hand in Naofumi's purchase of Raphtalia. She likely promised the slaver to turn a blind eye on his business.

She couldn't risk killing her even then because there is not excuse for that when the other two heroes are there. I'd disagree. Mein seems to prefer to only manipulate the laws, not to break them outright. If she thinks she can get away with something she will, but there are limits. She couldn't force Naofumi to release Raphtalia herself because it's legal, so she had to use Motoyasu to have her freedom "won" in a duel. There's limits to how far she can go. One word of what I assume is legal declaration by the Queen sent by her messengers is enough to stop her in her tracks and force her to try and find a cheap loop such as betting on a duel. From what's being said, she wouldn't have any legal issues hunting and killing Raphtalia, but destroying someone's property, even a "criminal's", would get her in big trouble.

It does feel like there was more meaning to Naofumi taking in Raphtalia then at first glance, probably connected to the relationship between the old Shield Hero and the Demi-Humans...

Summoning the legendary heroes then killing them and doing it all over again because you didn't like their attitude seems excessive, they're supposed to be legendary and revered figures that the kingdom took great effort to summon, then you're just going to kill them when they rebel, that's bad publicity for the royal family.

Besides, if they really hated the shield hero that much they could've just killed him at the start, but they didn't, so that seems to be not an option.

Maybe it is just message loop. We have only seen teleportation in relation to wave, so it is possible that message spy-girls is the fastest way of communication. Or maybe faster channels are easy to control - like crystal ball kept in royal treasury under constant watch.

It seems that the queen is far away in some other city so it's possible.

My biggest concern with Raph developing feelings for Naofumi is their slave-master relationship, it's true that Raph is no longer a slave despite the tattoo, but she was a slave first, that's how they met.

I can understand that this is not something new BUT their relationship becomes really really really icky in the context that Naofumi isn't some dense harem protagonist, he's a slave owner with a slave who developed stockholm syndrome

I was basically asking here whether there's any other way to interpret that scene without going the "Raph showing her boobies to her master" route. Looks like it is what it is... ugh

I hope they actually explain something else entirely,

1. how did the queen (that looks actually normal) marry such a shit husband
2. how did she end up with even shittier daughter

If they didn't have some resemblance I'd even start to speculate if they were actually related by blood.

So if pair met under shitty circumstances and entered in relationship of mutual grows and respect the relationship are icky? I kinda agree in a way: what we, humans are - what we made of - is icky. But stockholm syndrome only icky as far as it reminds us of what we truly are. And if you actually look at "normal" behavior it is no better. So what we left with is the end result. And the end result seems ok-ish to me (at least for now). I'v seen far worse - and no slavery was needed.

So because Raphatalia and Naofumi met under crappy circumstances and in a crappy way having any sort of positive meaningful relationship be it romantic or familial is 100% impossible? Well ok then....

The fact he now has a "slave master shield" implies that the shield does "things" potentially beyond what the slave seal does. For all we know her putting back the seal could be just brainwashing from the shield. We've already seen it to be able to influence Naofumi's emotions and even cause hallucinations.

Not going to say much since as you said the conversation is better placed in the other thread, but your logic fails due to simple timing. He's shown putting the slave ink into the shield and unlocking the Slave Master shield immediately AFTER she put the slave seal on. Up until now it hadn't been available to him. For him to have brainwashed her through the slave master shield would've been as impossible as him using that dog bite trick before he got the dog shield.
