Well if you watch the first original series than the new one, you will not also see how it was improved but you can look after more for the important parts. Though maybe a mid 70's anime is a bit too old nowadays, but that is the person to decide.
Like how I prefer more the art style of the first Hellsing anime (the 2001 one) while the story and brutality of the 2nd one (2009) is better. |

The differences in the new series will likely get greater as in continues. The second series had a lot more ship to ship combat than the first one did, so I suspect that will need a large amount of updating to keep up with the improvements from Yamato 2199 in regards to ship to ship combat.

Interesting voice over choice.
Teresa is naked again. Kodai's got a captain's jacked and hat (though doesn't seem to have a promotion) Yuki's back to her reddish uniform coat from before they left Earth (logical). (Little teasing trailer) I guess there might be a longer one in the next several months, as they did this for Yamato 2199 as well. There are 174 days left..... (Blu-ray will be out March 24th, 2017 for episodes 1 and 2...at least if I read it correctly) Aside from new versions of figurines of Yuki, there will definitely be a 1/1000 scale model kit for Andromeda early on. EDIT: Yamato's hull line his higher now...up to the middle of the torpedo doors and just above the wings. Yesterday I ran a Star Blazers game at a convention in an effort to simulate a possible combined fleet action for 2202, with an Earth/Gamilas force against a Gatlantis force. Gatlantis won this time. Earth ship's couldn't hit the broadside of a barn when they needed to, and the Gatlantis ships managed to get in close and use their larger numbers of guns to overwhelm the wave motion shielding. Yamato was the last Earth ship to be destroyed in the game, with a Magna-shock cannon from an enemy battleship. Andromeda was the last Earth ship on the table that couldn't escape, and would have been destroyed easily the next turn. The remaining Gamilas ships were two large battleships and a battlecarrier. While they are powerful, they were vastly outnumbered by that point simply because chance failed them too many time in the six or so hour game. (The playtest was an Earth/Gamilas victory, but a costly one. This was the first time Gatlantis has defeated the upgraded Earth ships with wave motion shields, which means I think I'm finding a balance point.)

A little over six months away for the Blu-ray release for those who can't be in Japan to experience it first hand. Release date is March 24th.
No information of subtitles and languages at this point, but if they are consistent, their will be English subtitles on their region free blu-rays.

Well I hope the 2199 blurays sold well enough to warrant continued subtitling. Voyager disastrous release aside, I bought every single volume including and the movie with a few of them being limited editions picked up while in Japan last year or so.
Feb 25th might warrant a weekend run to Tokyo! |

It seems that Kodai is captain of the destroyer Yuunagi with a mixed Earth-Gamilas frontier defense task force (38th). So my recent combined Earth-Gamilon fleet action against the Comet Empire for the Battle of Saturn might not be too far off the mark.

Weren't they waiting for there wedding day when Kodai got back from patrol only to have stuff happen in the film? I'm not certain I recall how the series version went, only that they announced they postponed the wedding following the survivor's recovery from the hospital and the eve of Yamato taking off as a training ship (A New Voyage)....or roughly a month after the events of the Second Series.
It was suppose to be soon from what I recall from Kodai's return from patrol.

The actual wedding was delayed until 6inal Yamato, but they had had plans for it to be rather soon at the start of Farewell to Yamato. Like weeks or months away I seem to recall. Though I have not rewatched that film in a while now.
Side note: this is the series/story that gave Yamato the reputation of having to ask the question "who is going to live?". Should we have a death list? The two versions of the story do not have many survivors.
