Well, the author has foreshadowed that since the beginning with Kazuki remaining as himself intead of being Harold (as in, he didn't reincarnated as Harold nor did he became him, he possessed Harold), which makes this different to the other stories of the protagonists reincarnating as a villian then just changing to being good.

And I am still hoping the Auther will someday make regular releases instead of the irregular ones where you don't know when it is going to be released.

Harold is indeed very choroi, but with others like Erika or Itsuki he just goes at it for a while, and then puts a stop to it. In this case he kept going on and on, I can only describe it as "the went lost on each other", it's like a romcom between 2 childhood friends

Depending on your perspective, Overlord can also fall into that category. I recently started reading another story where the female protagonist is the sister of a galge hero/reincarnator. The plot-twist here was that the protagonist herself was also a reincarnator, but (spoilers) the sister was also someone who reincarnated into the same game.

Sadly, the author deals another twist and the spoilered part above is literally cut from the story. It remains to be seen if he just rowed back because "it" doesn't have ANY influence on the story at all, or if "it" will be revealed to have a pretty important influence on the story later on.
(Avoiding spoilers is hard...)

I think there was even a story about someone reincarnating as a game-hero's pet which was supposed to die in the "tutorial"... forgot the name though...
