Another day on "the questions about Sailor Moon that have been asked too many times".
One does not have to be a planet to have a Sailor warrior attached. You know, what's with the titular character being a moon. And if that doesn't convince you the manga had Sailor Ceres, Vesta, Juno and Pallas so it's really not relevant to anything. |

sailormoon = saturday morning or afternoon time slot casual anime fans nanoha & madoka = very late nite slot that caters mostly to 'kimoi' otaku even in japan... i heard there's shortage of new anime fans. this remake franchise by Naoko Takeuchi must be released to broaden new anime fandom not just in japan... but the whole world! |

Yup. It's as if people have run out of ideas for something new and just HAVE TO reboot old series. Of course, I just learned that FF7 is getting re-released for PC, so the whole trend thing just hit me harder.

I am going to go out and say something that a lot of people will disagree with me on. I hope the new anime is NOT a one to one adaptation of the manga. I honestly don't think the manga is very good outside of nostaligia. Each story arc follows the same format, the villains are poorly characterized and characters spend most the time making speeches about how they feel/their destiny/etc. I hope it will be done more in the style of the musicals or PGSM, where it is based more on the manga but tries to be its own creation and not the exact same thing we have had for 20 years.

And the great IP necromancy continues! Can we get an actual Berserk TV series this time?
I wonder if SM can really get the same large audience in today's anime industry though. Things have change a lot since the 90's, especially considering what sells now. |

Looking at how the manga is selling in the US, Sailor Moon actually has a chance to be an International hit.

I haven't watched anything Sailor Moon since I was a kid, so I can't be sure of how much I'd enjoy it nowadays, but I'll definitely be giving this a try, even if mostly for nostalgia's sake, as well as to see how a work so relevant to the history of the industry is brought to life today. Hopefully not by turning the characters into moeblob lolis to suit modern trends and audiences...
I'm curious about the seiyuu cast. Apparently Kotono Mitsuishi has spoken of a role, but are we even sure it's actually Usagi? I'd like for the original cast to reprise their roles if they can still go, but it's not uncommon in remakes for the originals to be replaced with a younger cast. If so, inb4 Kana Hanazawa voicing Sailor Mercury. |
