Wow, thanks for resurrecting this thread again. Now I get to feel more stupid when arguing with Sky and Klash. Also, where did you go, Deus ex. Digital Boy. What I don't remember was me knowing qtip at this time. I thought that was later on.
By the way, I recommend Elfen Lied and second Air.

Secret of Cerulean Sand
I was so depressed by watching the first part of it with Spoiler for depression:
that I dropped the entire series. Futakoi Alternative was really irregular, it had action and humor, but it ultimately turned into thick, oppressive, self-consuming angst that again I couldn't stomach it anymore. |

You want sad and depressing even painful...then here are a few answers:
.hack//sign (yet unmatched in my book) Blood+ (the whole series consists of tears, dispair, confusion and madness) Jinki Extend (oh the betrayal and descent into madness) Uchuu no Stellvia (talk about low self-esteem) Matantai Loki Ragnarok (the last part with Hel is so emotional) Sola (trust me, this one has a very sad ending and a slightly sad storyline) Kaze no Stigma (Expecially when you learn about the main characters past in the last part) Uta Kata (sad all the way through, but what an ending) Figure 17 (Decent match for .hack//sign on sadness) Mai Hime (Oh the decent into madness and dispair) Mai Otome (similar reasons to Hime...remember 'Mai Otome Zwei' too) Kamichama Karin (you really need to see the ending for this to find out why) Petopeto-san (some sad bits throughout but the ending is really sad) Solty Rei (lots of mixed feelings in this with a mixture of sadness and dispair in among) Jigoku Shoujo (sort of self-explanatory. This series is known also as 'Hell Girl') You can probably tell by now what I look for in an anime These are just the ones I didn't notice previously mentioned. As for Elfen Lied I found it to be an amazing emotional piece. However, as I struggle to show any emotion and myself suffer from severe depression it is a surprise I deliberately search out this sort of anime. If I wasn't writing this at 2:22am I might argue the Elfen Lied case, but as is I shall not. I'll just state I'm a supporter of the depressing claim. P.S. this is my first post after I found this thread on google Last edited by mouseycou; 2008-06-21 at 20:48. Reason: added signature |

ef a tale of memories gets very dramatic, especially Chihiro/Renji's story though the Hirono story also has some intensely powerful moments. The visual style may take some time to get used to, but I thought it generally worked in the show's favor.

If you want to see some sad anime I suggest:
-Elfen Lied -Clannad the movie -wolfs' rain *note: elfen lied contents voilence and a lot of bloody scenes. *clannad the movie is a bit slow in the start, but get depressing in he end. Last edited by Gleerock; 2009-01-18 at 11:04. |

no mention of Binbou Shimai Monogatari?
Although the show has many sweet moments, if you haven't cried at least once by the end of the show, then you must have a heart of solid brick. |

If you think about it, "Fist of the Nothern Star" OKA "Hokuto no Ken" is a very depressing story where three disciples with the same ultimate goal had to fight each other to their deaths to obtain peace.
Raoh, Toki and Kenshiro all had the same ultimate goal for peace to the land but took seperate routes resulting to conflict between one another resulting to a battle to the death. My favorite was Rei, master of Nanto Suicho-ken. |
