What was up for the Iron Sky team at the Berlinale on Friday the 10th - one day before the premiere.
So i wonder how German movie viewers are going to react after watching this movie? Hopefully they don't take this seriously.

Hmmmm. Dated political humor...though that is expected when the movie has been in production for so long. (this is why it is best to avoid political humor if it in not something either historical (period piece jokes) or universally accepted (like joke about Nixon's style still work even though half the people laughing were not alive when he was President). It can distract if the dated joke isn't as funny as it could have been.)

All German reviews I've read so far have been positive (to say the least).
They were all done by those artsy culture folk, that you'd expect to meet at the Berlinale. I am not sure what to make of that. Usually those guys rip every fun movie apart. Now they really seem to love this one. Btw. about the political correctness: no one here has a problem with a comedy about Nazis... as long as it's a foreign production. Only if a German would try the same, it would be considered daring and possibly scandalous. Lately that has been less of a problem though. There is currently a really funny series of sketches about Hitler in an "The Office" parody setting. That stuff is brilliant. And it's actually running on German tv produced by German comedians. The average German won't be offended, but some of them take these kind of movies about Nazis way too seriously. You will have discussions by (self proclaimed) intellectuals on whether it should be allowed(!) to make a comedy about the Nazis, some arguing it trivializes them and others saying you have to make fun of them. And they will be dead serious about their opinions. Simply sitting back and enjoying an action flick about Nazis seems impossible for them. Kinda encouraging the prejudice about Germans being uptight...
I remember the discussions about "The Downfall" ("Der Untergang"), which showed the last hours of Hitler in his bunker. (Yes, the video with 1000 different subtitles on youtube) Many said portraying Hitler as a normal human being (in the movie Hitler is actually shown as bat-shit insane, but critics still thought it wasn't evil enough...) would make people pity Hitler. IIRC the main actor's grandson even wanted his grandfather to decline the role, as "he would accidentally become more like Hitler during his work". Makes me wonder if anti-Nazi brainwashing may have gone overboard a little.... I haven't read any real critic about Iron Sky, though - probably it is just too crazy. Maybe that is also a spoiler for me, as it likely means the Nazis in this movie will get their ass kicked in the end, thus satisfying all the anti Nazi people here in Germany. (They say resistance against Hitler is growing stronger every year since his death.) |

Welll, there was "To Be, or Not To Be" and "Spaceballs" which covered most of that...at least in feel.
And that is a really good image of a Israeli Space Forces starship (what better way to deal with Nazis from the Moon?)

The John Carter series was originally published aroung 1912. Yeah, a hundred years ago I'm kind of sad they're Disney-fying it (no nudity, redacted gore) but hey, I'll probably go see it at the matinee price.
