Wow the Patlabor Theme is absolutely amazing . Can't believe I've never heard it before, but I'm adding it to my collection. Well let's see here:
#25 Gitsac 2nd Gig 19641 units #24 Card Captor Sakura 20192 units #23 Azumanga Daioh 23725 units (WTF Opening) #22 Air 23905 units #21 Love Hina 24013 units (Really hard to see this text) #20 Gundam ZZ 26028 units (Even though it proclaims Anime Janai) #19 Fate/Stay Night 26047 units #18 Gundam Wing 28469 units (Always loved Just Communication) #17 Patlabor 28514 units (This song is just WOW!) #16 Initial D Fourth State 29508 units (I never saw the appeal, honestly) #15 Future Boy Conan 31158 units (I'm going by Katakana alone at this point) #14 Dragon Ball GT 31696 units (Say what you want about the series, but I like the music) #13 Lupin The Third 1st Series 35331 units (Worst Song EVER!) #12 Fullmetal Alchemist 36519 units #11 Nadia The Secret Of Blue Water 36821 units (Love this song too) TOP 10....HOORAH #10 Martian Successor Nadesico 37897 units (If nothing else people are getting a lecture in classic anime theme songs) #9 Dragon Ball Z 40065 units #8 Cowboy Bebop 40212 units #7 Suzumiya Haruhi 41307 units (Did not expect to see this here to be honest) #6 Code Geass 44657 units (Nor this) #5 Zeta Gundam 54994 units (My all time favourite! I WANNA HAVE A PURE TIME, EVERYONE'S A NOBLE MIND!) #4 Gundam Seed 58563 units (You know what, I can see this beating Zeta out and I'm okay with it even if I don't think it's anywhere near as good. Afterall this is a sales chart) #3 Gundam Seed Destiny 69247 units (Okay now really, this just isn't fair) #2 Mobile Suit Gundam 80928 units (It's....Gundam again) #1 Neon Genesis Evangelion 173458 (More than double MSG. With the number of times this has been re-released over the years nothing else really had a fair shot) Sunrise series basically dominate this list with at least 9 series on it (6 of which are in the top 10). Second place I think goes to Toei with at least a couple. The list makes sense, although I had no idea Gundam Seed Destiny sold so much. By this logic 00 is likely to be on this list at some point. Although I started this thread and contribute once in a while to it, eggplant has been doing an absolutely phenomenal job of posting and updating anime DVD sales figures here on a regular basis. I take my hat off to him.

other then dvd sale and how many eps contain in per dvd,
dvd price is an important element also. so using the following equation can find out how much money did per ep earn in an anime : (dvd sale)*(dvd price)/(eps contain in dvd) if you need dvd price, go to amazon.co.jp. after the calculation, the top3 tv animes after 2000 on "how much money did per ep earn" are : 1. haruhi 2. gundam seed destiny 3. code geass price does matter, and it matter much. |

Regarding what Kaoshin-sama posted above, Sunrise's Gundam series generally have 50-ish episodes, while their Code Geass had 26, and Haruhi had 14.
If I'm right, it's charting how many DVD units of each series has been sold, and so, Neon Genesis Evangelion aside, people would buy twice as many DVD's for any of the Gundam series in the top 10 than they would for Code Geass is they wanted the entire series, and still twice as many DVD's of Code Geass than they would Haruhi. (So for those who don't want to multipy two times two in their head, Gundam DVD sales would generally be quadruple Haruhi sales and double Code Geass') Of course, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Continuing, I'm still surprised that The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Code Geass are on there, as they're each two years and a year and a half old, respectively. Most of the other series in the top ten have had at least five years to sell units (SEED Destiny had about three and a half, averaging.), with half over ten years old. |

Doroku shows, such as Gundam SEED and Fullmetal Alchemist, also targeted kids, but they were able to appeal to an older audience too, such as teenagers and the hardcore anime fanbase. Because of that, the DVD sales for those shows are always higher than the animes that are specifically for kids. |

Junjou Romantica sold over 10k? Wow. That makes me quite happy. I hope the studio will consider a second season after noticing this. On the other hand, Vampire Knight only sold nearly 3k? Damn.
Thanks for the data! Last edited by Gankutsuou; 2008-08-12 at 21:19. |

Of course I'm just amazed to see more than 10k copies have been sold, since I didn't even think there were that many fans of the genre, which should mean that people who aren't the first targeted audience also enjoyed the series (something I couldn't have imagined for a yaoi series). Of course, I may also be underestimating the power of some fangirls(/boys)... it wouldn't be the first time (I am suddenly reminded of the Katekyo Hitman Reborn Hibari/Mukuro ending single, sung by the respective seiyuu, that sold over 60k units). Thank you so much for taking the time to keep all the numbers updated, eggplant!

Well, the DVD sales for Index will be adversely impacted by the availability of Blu-Ray (and I read a news post this past week that suggested the Blu-Rays were outselling the DVDs for this show). Unless something has changed, eggplant previous indicated that Blu-Ray sales were only ranked and not quantified in the listings.
