It breaks my immersion when another language appears for out-of-context reasons. Being able to understand it was just an extra issue. The song would have been fine in Japanese.

I was similarly bothered by CommieSubs going bananas with their Gratuitous German in their sub of Girls und Panzer.

On the episode:
At least some people do seem to be aware that Mikasa and Eren, at least, and possibly Mikasa, Eren, and Armin are all very familiar with each other, as well as what had to be done during the hole-plugging mission. It seemed odd that Mikasa and Armin ended up in the general troop pool for deciding which branch they wanted to join, instead of being placed with Eren or otherwise being monitored more closely.

Great episode, lot's of emotion. Probably the best episode since the trost arc ended. They handled everything really well, and ended the episode at the perfect part. So much hype for the next episode.

no.. I think you're not hallucinating it, I hear it too, it's the same song in episode 7 when Mikasa tell Armin "it's not the time to be emotional", and she said, she is strong, very strong, extremely strong and she can take all titans by herself...
Too bad it's not in the soundtrack list..

I don't think they skipped it, they just merged it with Eren and Jeans conversation towards the end of the ep.

They didn't really merge it, that's an actual scene from the manga later on. I liked that page in the manga because it shows Jean reconciling that Eren has some strength.

Just about the only thing I was really looking forward to from this otherwise slow episode was the Scouting Legion marching out to Titan territory.

I was expecting Ride of the Rohirrim epicness, instead they gave us the dreaded still frames... waste of potential as usual.

Erwin had most likely talked to them about more info concerning the basement otherwise, there isn't much reason to give those two special treatment. Armin and Mikasa emotional ties don't have much effect on Eren's mind when he's in Titan form.

Yeah I swore Jean said that, but rearranged and shorten at a different scene. Their conversation at the end was pretty much them reconciling anyway.

So I was wondering how the anime's going to execute the scene of everyone diddering on their legs with their decisions of joining the survey corps as what the awesome manga has without making it look bad, but it turned out that EVERYTHING IS f***ing NICELY DONE OR I SAY BETTER THAN I EXPECTED. Jean, Connie and Sasha just made this episode more favorable yet Mikasa's long-awaited reaction upon meeting Eren completed everything. I love it when she pulls off a deadly stare. The art is heavenly made. Perfect.

Jean's part in this episode was nicely done. It really felt that he is going to die as a sacrifice but he needed a good reason for that first. Mikasa became overprotective but considering that Eren is leaving and is now a shifter it makes sense.

Is Eren that unlikable? He may overreact but he never stopped caring just like when he was afraid that Mikasa was going to be executed. With Levi's group he is also behaving pretty well. I believe Eren's anger makes sense.

Eren Is actually the second most popluar character in the manga according to an official poll, so he's quite well liked.

Hey hey man, her line about calling Levi a chibi was pretty funny. I love the tenison that has been buliding between those two ever since the trial. But Levi should watch his back though.
