As for the mainland Chinese, I somehow doubt the village farmers living in inland China, or the migrant worker who's left his/her child(ren) behind give two hoots about this dispute. |

this current issue with the Senkaku/Daioyu islands are believed it or not, not spark by China. It was Ishihira, Ultra-Nationalist Governor of Tokyo that kick this off with his plan to buy the islands for development.

And honestly, the Chinese do not particularly like the Germans because they sometimes have this nasty habit to interfere with China's interal affairs (e.g. they regard the Dalai Lama as such). However, there is even less "love" for the Japanese. So, whenever a politcal decission over equipement acquisition boils down to a... either take a Japanese or a German product/design (for technical reasons), you can bet they will choose the german product over the japanese one. Even if they procure both, like in the case of the high speed train deals. They will buy the newest generation trains based on german design to be their flagship fleet and an technically older generation of trains based on japanese design (even if both newest generation designs are basically on par). The effect of such behaviour (nevermind the nationalistic touch to it) is that it becomes like a state run advertisement campaign for non-japanese products.

It's a modern day thing. Germany tends to have many diplomatic positions which PRC does not like (such as recognizing the Dalai Lama). The only times they had the same stance was on military intervention of Iraq and Libya, although for different reasons.

On my part, Mainland TV Debate on riots. Translation :- Should China be heavy-handed on resisting Japanese Exports ? "If we need to resist Japanese exports, we should not touch our own Japanese goods. But we should do better than them. Our officials should be less corrupted. Our streets should be cleaner. And our youths' future better and brighter." I had a chuckle out of this. Better faced up to reality, kid. I am not getting cynical here, right ? Last edited by MakubeX2; 2012-09-17 at 18:14. |
