Also, having over a thousand Sahuagin is quite a bit more than a "trashy mob," isn't it?

A character who isn't specced for combat, who has no equipment, and who as badly outnumbered as she was is in danger no matter what level they are.

Nice episode. Its really fun and relaxing watching the newbie team win their fight. Its also funny when Rudy was pet zoned by Isuzu. Its a funny scene when Isuzu literally treats him like a dog
And the attack of the murlocs commence.

why is everyone assuming that she can or cannot fight, all we have to go on is the direction the story is taking us.
we don't know: a) how gear dependent any class is - or if you need gear to even use abilities b) whether healer classes have any offensive combat abilities (i highly doubt they have none) c) the level/regen scaling scaling of the game, (eg kirito in SOA having regen that outscales incoming damage from lower levels) if we don't know these things, what's to say she can't stand in the middle, tank everything and perpetually heal herself if her regen and healing out scale the damage coming in? obviously the people who play world of warcraft know what i'm talking about, and i too am kind of annoyed that a level 90 of any class would ever have the need to run from anything that low level as suggested, but going back to my original point, we are all just speculating. |

Unfortunately, all of what you're asking (as in the nitty-gritty info, particularly of Maryelle's abilities)... are all novel info.
As for what we CAN see, she's a cleric without ANY equipment. As in no armor. Even in old-style Ragnarok, half of a tank cleric's defense value comes from the armor they're wearing. I doubt a bikini can defend against the polearms the sahuagin are carrying.

I think even without novel information, it makes sense. Fighting when on a computer screen is something different from fighting face to face, and cleric or not, she getting overwhelmed and afraid of a horde of monsters wielding swords makes perfect sense. Heck, Shiroe mentions it specifically to Minori when talking to her in this episode, that taking out monsters their level is badass simply because of this.
Low level or not, a horde waving swords? I bet that'd disturb a lot of people, level 90 or not. PLus, as mentioned, she's basically naked.

Exactly. Level 90 or no, a cleric in a bikini won't be able to help. Healing newbies won't work, as some people suggested, as she herself would make a VERY tempting target.
Shoryuu was right this time. A tactical retreat was in order, if only to re-equip to something better suited for a massed battle.

Yep, pretty much. Lack of defense plus sheer numbers of opponents will eventually outpace a high-level cleric's healing, in my experience. Best course of action? Hightail it back to where the equipment is, get changed, and THEN go back to help.

That is kind of the point wasn't it? Maryelle WAS treating it as a vacation... because that's exactly what she wanted. Remember, the training camp was just an excuse that Shiroe came up with to give Maryelle what she was asking for.
She was expecting a few days of fun under the sun, and was certainly NOT expecting a horde of hostile fishmen. I don't think anyone would.

Lvl 90 or no, someone who has little to no battle experience while directly controlling an avatar(?) as if it were her own body as opposed to staring in front of a screen, who is basically naked equipment-wise, and isn't specced for tanking/frontline duty would definitely have trouble even w/ low level mobs (thousands of them too).
And again adventurers feel pain in ET. Even if they are more resilient to it doesn't mean they don't feel it. Me: Lot's o' Murlochs to slaughter but I don't have anything on me. I'm Lvl. 90 anyways so I'll just beat em up w/ mah fists... 10 mins later... Me: Well I've managed to beat several, my HP is still close to full... but I have spears sticking out of my gut......... !@#$%%^*&^*&^*&....

And if you think about it, the trainers at Ragranda Forest didn't have to do anything when the kids were in the dungeon. We saw that Naotsugu and Marie were chatting while Nyanta was cooking and Rezarick was off who-knows-where.

The topic about low level mob remind me of my time in RO when I attack a poring whom I think is weak but turn out to be "that" Poring that can summon an army of porings..... Killed in seconds. Level doesn't really matter much when mobs can zerg rush....

To be fair though she's described as the "sun" of Crescent Moon Alliance and just one smile from her would fire up all those hot-blooded boys (maybe some females too) in the guild and give them the strength and courage to fight dungeon/raid bosses solo lol She may be the mascot and poster girl of CMA but she does the role incredibly well. She also takes on the "onee-san" role w/out being too overbearing due to her quirks.

Here's a question for you all to ponder, and I suggest you don't just dismiss it offhand: are levels in this game linear or exponential? If they're linear, then Marielle at level 90 is equal to roughly 4.5 of those level 20 monsters. Think about it.
Also, stop trying to use WoW as a baseline for comparison. The author based this off of early MMOs like Everquest, which are drastically different from these things young people play. Saying "well a high-level character in WoW could handle" instantly invalidates your argument.
