Pokemon being one of the earlier generation anime (most people here seem to have seen Pokemon first than any other anime)... I'd say Pokemon probably had the longest run. Unless there were some really ancient ome anime that was running as long as Pokemon has.

Doraemon is one of the longest running TV series in Japan, while Sazae-san has been running longer, there are more episodes of Doraemon. While the original 1973 series was not very well received and fizzled after only 26 episodes, the 1979 series still runs today, with over 2000 episodes (total) to date.

Isn't Doraemon the longest running series? The show supposedly had over 600 episodes. And there is Detective Conan, I think this is still going and supposedly it's almost at 500 episodes.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about Doraemon (somehow it didn't even occur to me as an anime... shame on me! XD).

Well, in the longest OVA, I'd think Legend of Galactic Heroes takes that crown.

There is only one correct answer folks and that is Sazae-san with almost 2000 episodes. Airing since 1969 and still airing today, it is the longest running anime series. (Doraemon does not have 2000 episodes. This is a mistake in the ANN encyclopedia.)

I think I heard that somewhere...
Meet the Press is just around longer bu the Tv Series with the most Ep is Guiding Light at 15000+.

The Tv series started in 1952 and before that there was a Radio Serial which started in 1937.

It holds the record for just the longest Tv series but longest series of any show.

Anpanman Very Popular with Infants and Toddlers in Japan

Soreike! Anpanman has been on television in Japan since October 1988. Its 900th episode aired earlier this year.

Even with Japan's low, declining birthrate and aging, inevitably shrinking population, Soreike! Anpanman, aimed at very young children, annually generates hundreds of millions of US dollars in character and merchandise sales in Japan.

Correction. Kochikame is known as one of the longest manga series in publication, along with Golgo 13.

Its anime counterpart, while very long, is less than 370 episodes, and nowhere near the big-dogs of the long running anime such as Sazae-san, Doraemon, Anpanman, Crayon-Shinchan, and Chibi Maruko-chan.

Longest manga.

Now that One Piece has just got to the 500 chapter mark, i was wondering what the longest manga is. SO far i can only think of;

Hajime no Ippo - 800 chapters - 90 volumes(?)
One Piece - 500 chapters - 51 volumes(?)
Naruto - 401 chapters - 43 volumes(?)

Jojo's bizarre adventure finished at 63. But has sequels.

According to mangaupdates.

One sequel finished at volume 17 and another still ongoing at volume 14. So a total of 94.
