Geh. All this explicit praise he's getting makes me want to retch. Does this get less as the story goes on? I really hope it does.
Taurus Silver was already one of the best engineers in recent history before Tatsuya entered High school, this was explained back during the fight with Hanzo. Tatsuya is the software side of Taurus Silver. It's a no brainer that he would be "most likely the most prodigious engineer in the history of the Nine Schools Competition" any person of that level normally wouldn't still be in school.

He's getting praise because 1) he's handing out spells that only the best mages are able to pull off or even know to the first year girls like they were PEZ 2) he's tuned the activation times of spells down to nearly ridiculously short time frames. and 3) He's come up with some rather impressive strategies

I did like how Tatsuya got bullied into joining the competition. It would be pretty unreasonable for him to willingly get involved. And it was fun seeing him not getting his way.
It's kinda a running thing. Tatsuya didn't want to be part of the DC, got pulled in by Mari and Miyuki. He didn't want to be on the engineering team but was unable to get out of the room fast enough and tripped the Asuza landmine while trying to do so

I still find it hilarious how:

Morisaki: We are definitely going to win the Monolith Code because me and all Blooms are so pro that I am totally above all the goddamn weeds!

Result: Massive fail where he gets buried by rocks and goes into hospital with critical injuries

AKA YOU FAILED LOSER MORISAKI

Morisaki: BAWWWWWWWWWWW *MASSIVE RAGE*

Watchers: *points at Morisaki* ROFL LOL AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA LOSER!!!

Morisaki, the sacrificial pawn who just fails way too much

He really needs to know his place =w=

Spoiler for Comparison to Toaru Majutsu no Index:

Anyways this episode was better than the last few have been (not that it means much) but still boring, I didn't like the opening for many reasons, I fear that next arc will cut out a crucial piece of dialogue (don't worry i won't spoil, pampz you know what I mean) and they seem to be trying hard to make us like Miyuki (at most I feel meh abour her and it will never change) apart from that spoilers everywhere.

About the episode itself only liked the part where Jumanji... I meam Juumonji forces Tatsuya to compete. Am I the only one who thinks the Mirage Bat costumes look ugly?, as a guy I'm not good with fashion but my eyes hurt everytime I see someone wearing them.

I know, but I find the excessive praise both awkward and sickening.

That line was especially superfluous, the fact that they went out their way to greet him personally and wanted to fight against him should have been more than enough praise without spelling it out.

Well, the good thing about that accident is that he won't be facing humiliation when beaten by Masaki and George. That's even worse than an accident.

Don't think Fourth High was cheating. They claimed their CAD was sabotaged with, which is plausible considering Seventh High's CAD was also tampered with in the Battle Board event.

So, we got ourselves a new OP/ED. Think the new OP isn't as good as the other one, but still solid. Erika with ponytail looks nice.
However, I like the ED better than the last one. Song's better and the composition of the scenes is good. Lots of shipteasing? Aside from the obvious pairing of Miyuki and Tatsuya we got frames with Leo and Erika and Yoshida and Mizuki.

Oh, and that frame of the OP is good signature stuff I guess.

Which again begs the question, why is Tatsuya even in school to begin with? Based on what we've seen in the anime so far, a chance to experience a semi normal life seems to be one possible reason, for the sake of Miyuki might be another....

It also reminds me that Mahoka might have been better off, had it not been shackled in a High School Premise with all it's potential for lazy High School Cliches....

That was a rather weak comparison/allusion to Toaru Majutsu no Index there. Though Chosen_Hero has already hit the nail on the head as to why.

As for the episode, why does it feel like every time someone opens their mouth to talk they are deliberately trying to bore me? Its been 14 episodes and I'm still waiting for the anime to entice me to read the light novels. Maybe this was all in vain...

Fanboys of a showed tried to bash another shows about how bad it is comparing to the original show?

Spare me the fanboying/fangirling war. But please understand that your opinion is not universal. I probably can say that "At least Mahouka provides entertain value while Index is a case of author spoon-feeding his moral compass and perfect character stereotypes onto audiences, while let villain role turn over with serious lacking of reasoning and development"....

....it probably will annoy you two to no end. But at least i didn't do to Index forum to participate in a "my series better than yours" post, did I?

But I'm not comparing anything. I never said "my series is better than yours" in any sort of way. I was just pointing out a weak comparison that was made between the series by someone else (albeit understandable from the viewpoint he was coming from). In fact, there was no fanboy/fangirling war going on until you mentioned it...

I'm seriously trying to watch this show so I get sufficiently excited enough to dive into the light novels. I'm still waiting for that to happen and I'll wait for the entire season to end if need be.

OH&S I'll cast away all hope if I was you... Actually I read the two first novel, and was hoping for the TV series to be interesting enough to continue it cause the first arc was too boring to read.
You know what we got.

The cheating part came at the beginning of the competition. It was mentioned that they had to know where 1st High's participants were before the start to maneuver team 1st High together inside the building. There was also a reference to a false start, whatever that means.

You know what we got.
But I heard that even the LN readers find the first 2 arcs (Vol 1-4) to be the worst of the series. Supposedly the next arc gets people to view the series in a different light. And thats what I'm waiting for.

I'm not too hopeful, but I'm willing to give it a chance to prove itself.

I just want to understand why the series is as popular as it currently is. I understand why Toaru Majutsu no Index and Sword Art Online are popular but am scratching my head on this one...

Considering you agreed with Chosen_hero on his comparison. I thought you shared the same sentiment. But if you didn't think it, then let's just take it as so

My point is, let just say, it's OK for a guy to come in and say how crappy this and Index are. It's his opinion. But if anyone come in trying to tell or imply that his crappy show is better than my crappy show. Then it not gonna ends peacefully

Fair enough when that actually happens.

But Chosen_Hero only did a comparison. He didn't really imply any one series was better than the other. Not only that, it sounds like he's actually read the Mahouka light novels to some extent. No bashing occurred.

Seconded. As an Index fan, I don't come here to bash Mahouka and tout about how bad it is in comparison to Index like risingstar3110 is saying we are. I come here to discuss Mahouka on its own merits/flaws with no comparison to anything else.
However, when I feel that an unfair comparison was made, I would attempt to point the flaws of that comparison the same way Chosen_Hero did. Hell, I would love to break that tired "spoon-feeding of the author's moral compass" argument against Index too but this isn't the place as it has nothing to do with Mahouka.

Spoiler for Reply to the posts:

I have to admit that the shipteasing in the OP and ED annoys and bothers me, it's like they let a fan who just skimmed the volumes create them and just put it together this way because he read random scene of them together and just started ship-guessing and of course it bombard us with presumed incest shipping (wheres a facepalm smiley when you need it?).

The comparisons of Mahouka to & against Index have gone on long enough.
