Dang it, this is just as good as I was expecting if not better. Just like Iron_Maw my one regret is that I already went through the availabel scanlations, but I still lover what I saw all the same.

Decent first episode, though I hope the premise expands beyond the Groundhog Day setup. Otherwise it'll get repetitive seeing MC get owned at the same spot.
Actually, I was getting a lot of "All You Need is Kill" aka "Edge of Tomorrow" aka "Live, Die, Repeat" vibes.

That was actually very good. A little slow going at first, but it really picked up in the second half. I really enjoyed it and I really want to learn more about this world.

Question is, why did she ask him to call her Satella, if the name was that infamous? You knew something was up with the name the whole time, but you didn't quite know what. Puck is adorable and I while the MC took a while to get used to, I really liked him as well.

That was a great start. Only problem I have is a minor QUALITY issue I noticed, but that is easy to look past. Each VA is doing a good job and the OST is really helping to set the right atmosphere. Even though I have read through the chapters available, this episode still managed to suck me in and has me wanting more.

The ED sounds fantastic.

There did you guys even get the QUALITY? Yes, a lot of background characters were in 3D but that's normal. I didn't see any other problems.

Ep1

The last part, with the action and seriousness, that setting wasn't too bad.
Just that the normal(?) conversations in the first half was an abomination, at best "light-novel"-like, but when put into audio, is incredibly boring.
Thankfully, the 4th quarter of the episode had more walk and less talk(or an attempt at... don't tell me, being funny?).

I think this is probably the best first episode I've seen so far. Great pacing, interesting characters, and a tense and dramatic second half that felt so short but is so engrossing. Looks like we're in for a time loop kind of story, I hope the story doesn't get too bogged down by him repeatedly dying and repeating the cycle too many times.

Hmm according to MAL amazon has listed this for a total of 25-26 episodes and not standard 24.

Interesting, I didn't the first half very LN-like beyond show intentionally poking fun at Subaru's delusions and then smashing all those expectations through various means and reactions of other characters. In fact Subaru and Emilia actually speak normally to each other why playing off their distinct traits is why I enjoyed their chemistry a lot. It definitely shows this self-aware of kinda of things one might expect from this genre at first glance.

After seeing the Anichart for the new season, this title was the one that excited me the most. I love medieval fantasy settings and time travel stories, however it's so hard to find quality shows with those themes. After watching the first episode i couldn't be happier because it was everything i was expecting. It's like a mix between Konosuba and All you Need is Kill together with awesome OST and nice animation. I have to point out how impressed i was by seeing the background characters moving (even if it's in 3D) because it made the city look so alive and dynamic. Last time i saw something like that was in the Ghost in the Shell (1995) film. I liked the characters especially the VA for the Silver-hair girl. I knew that voice was familiar and then i read it's the same as Megumin (EXPLOSION!!) which completely sold me...lol. Subaru is hilarious and shared the same trait as the protagonist from Konosuba since both had their hopes/delusions for them being the typical overpowered hero in a fantasy world completelly crushed. That made his interactions with the other characters way funnier and different from the usual LN setting.

The show took time to establish relationship dynamics before plot making it a nice surprise and prevented that rushed feeling i hate in this type of adaptations. But it does build up in the second part of the episode leaving a lot of hints for future worldbuilding. It got me interested in how this reset power works and to find out more about Satella and Elsa as well as this situation between them since it seems like there are factions working in the background...I'm curious about the magical and special items aspects of this as well. Watching how the main character will deal with the knowledge from the future and making plans/tactics to counter his enemies and the time flow itself will be fun to see since i love Edge of Tomorrow/All you Need is Kill type of stories.

The action scenes were fantastic and i enjoyed the balance between the different tones this series had with such a perfect blend between comedic light hearted moments and intense, serious and brutally dark scenes. Congrats to the studio for not being affraid to show blood. Low levels of censorship always help in making such moments way more epic and dramatic.

Can't wait for more of this! It will be painful to wait for the next episodes

There was a lot to like in this episode. Both the fun and the darker parts. Props to "Satella"'s VA, is definitely nice to hear the familiar voice of Megumin again .

Such a shame for Subaru that all the good progress he made with her during his first life there was obliterated. Will have to start all over again. But regardless they were some fun interactions. Can tell she expected a few times for him to be shocked or upset and was bracing herself for it. But since Subaru knows little about this world....she gets nothing but compliments .

At least Subaru is going to get chances to train up. He may be rough in terms of fighting technique now, but constantly getting killed should teach him a few things.

A bit tougher for Subaru in this situation though. He doesn't instantly gain the knowledge of the local language, his money is useless, and the best he can do is sell his phone to someone and run off before they realize that the battery will only last a short while .

The episode itself was kinda slow in a way but somehow it was easy to watch (well, it's a LN afer all) the art and animation (ew those CG mobs) are average at best and characters and dialogue were pretty damn awful honestly (typical LN stuff though, nothing surprising) BUT the plot looks interesting for once! You can hardly go wrong making things exciting with time travel and I also liked how they showed so much blood. Gains some points with me.

so... even with the bad things, it looks promising. I hope it gets better as the story develops.

p.s. right! another good thing: no lucky sukebe or anything like that. Thank You.

Nice thing about the cycles is how author does a good job of mixing things up while progressing the plot with them. For example Subaru will often end up meeting people he didn't the first time, taking certain actions which lead to huge effects or changes in the situation his in. Even his relationship will change significantly depend how he acts in one from another. This most exemplified in second half he didn't meet Satella at all because he defeat the muggers himself this time before she could arrive. Most importantly he always gains something from it no matter how small.

That and the fact a lot his expectations constantly get shot-down serve to drive home this is not a "trapped a in the D&D game or MMO" but an actual honest to goodness parallel fantasy world. There is subtle culture clash occurring between Subaru and everything in it the more he interacts and spends time here. Satella's perplexed and shocked reaction to Subaru nonchalantly brushing aside the fact she's a Half-Elf or his mention of being from a island to the east are other example of it.

And then he'll have to start it over again... and start it over again... and start it over again...

So. I haven't actually watched this yet, because I need more information before I'm willing to risk it. Does it seem like this series is going to be... dark? I don't mean violent or whatever, but will it be... depressing? Does it seem like things are likely to go bad, and it will be impossible to fix them? Or at least, impossible to fix them without something else going bad in an unsacceptable way? I realize those are tricky questions in a time-rewind/time-travel kind of story, but if things are likely to go the route of "in order to do whatever you have to do, this person you care about is going to have to die; there's nothing you can do to stop it" or "something terrible is going to happen to this character or characters you care about, but you can't stop it because if you do everything else will just get worse" etc. are things that I find depressing. A series that makes me like a character and then does something horrible to them may be considered evocative, but I don't have tolerance for it. I don't like seeing characters I care about suffering.

So what do you folks think? What route is this likely to take? Should I give it a try, or pass on it for the sake of my sanity?

I say pass if you really won't like less-than-cheerful scenarios like this.
The series gives off the feeling that there will be happy moments, but they will all be vastly outnumbered by the bad, gloomy and outright depressing moments.

One thing I really liked about this first episode, also I'm not a LN reader (considering reading that but seems like translations don't even exist aside from ch1), is the expressions in the face of Subaru and Emilia, especially when Subaru died and watched how Emilia was killed, that was perfect and added a nice tension to that moment.

When the episode was almost finished the ED started to sound in the background and that was amazing for me, and is something that not too many series have, the last one was Boku Dake with all those cliffhangers.

@Iron Maw, may i ask if you can send me that PM too please?

I will be happy if They maintain the level of violence level of Ajin or Gringar anime.

Now I will see the episode, but it received good reviews, I am confident.

The guy got gutted twice and he watched the girl he liked bleed to death. That isn't depressing enough?
