Okay... First I'm assuming that a_nevels666 is refering to Sailor Moon.
The sad thing is that the voice actors, when the dub began, were
almost the same age as the characters. I believe Terry Hawkes was
only about ninteen years old when the dub began. How time passes...

NitWit005, there are numerous legal issues with showing underage minors
doing the things show's like CosPrayers and Smash Hit do. The shower
scenes, inevitable bondage (ie: CosPrayers..), etc. Primarily, it is illegal
to show minors in sexual or sexually suggestive situations. At least in
North America that how it is, I'd have to refer to someone more
knowledgable in Japanese Law and it's stance on child pornography.

/me waits for kj1980 to appear.

Actually I wasn't refering to Sailor Moon at all.

I was refering more to shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer where the characters are supposed to be in high school but the actors are like 30 years old.

The Japanese sometimes give cleary underage characters characters older ages just to get around the whole legal thing.

Dubbed versions of anime use this tactic a lot as well.

I think I just summed up my primary reason for not watching M.O.E.
series. Honestly, you don't design a character to look thirteen or
fourteen than pass if off by stating that they're actually twenty-five.
As I understand it, is it not impossible for a character to look reasonably old and be "moe" as well?

So, in other words, a 25-sai main character looking 25 would kinda defeat the point of anything M.O.E. makes, right?

I don't think this is true. Didn't the Supreme Court rule that ficticious minors (ie depicted in story or art) were not covered by child pron laws a few years ago? I did a quick google search but couldn't find the ruling. Anyone have a link?

I don't think so. And even if that was so, they'd probably still want to avoid controversy.

The ruling you were looking for can be found here:

The Cosprayers parody at the beginning of ep 2 is hilarious.

It's too bad the show surrounding the Cosprayers parodies is just as bad as Cosprayers.

Anyone who saw Cosprayers but isn't watching this show because they think it sucks, should at least see the begining of ep2. That's what Cosprayers was for, in my opinion.

The MOE character designs are confusing me.

So the two girls fighting over swimsuits in the first episode, the one with the "childish" underwear is the actress that will become Miko Reiya. Who is the other one who fights with her and lets the producer borrow her swimsuit? Does she land a role in Cosprayers, or is she just another tryout?

Is it Diane, the green one? Trying to match up the shape of her hair but can't tell.

The beginning of the episode two is basically what the script at the end of episode 1 was written. If you look at Triad's copy, the entire thing is fansubbed into it for more clarification. But if you're too lazy, I've put it in spoiler tags below:

Yeah, you may be right.

I'm starting to think that CosPrayers was as bad as it was on purpose to make Smash Hit all the more entertaining.

This could actually be a brilliant move of sorts, and much more than I would expect from M.O.E.

I'm actually starting to think I might be glad to have watched the awfulness that was CosPrayers. Wow.

so Cosprayers and Smash Hit are by the same production peeps?

anyways... episode 2 was alright... it was bit less confusing than the first episode.... though I'm still not quite sure how that producer chick is 25 years old......

she looks an elementary student at best... actually she looks younger than that grade 6 girl actress for the Cosprayer show....

However her SD form at the ED looks a bit older

I heard that Smash Hit is one part of a trilogy. Meaning Cosprayer, Smash Hit and one other. Regardless, whether it's two series or three series, I think the show as whole is truly a brilliant concept.

I won't make anymore judgements until I've seen them all.

Yes, the last part of the trilogy is Love Love? and looks like your regular high school romantic comedy....

But wait a minute! Who is that I see! The actress who plays Miko Reiya?!? Could this be a series about the everyday life of the debut actress from Cosprayers???

Unfortunately I can't read the series despriction (damn kanji!) but the only thing I can make out is the word "idol" in the main character's bio.

I have a feeling it's just going to be either the lives of the actresses of Cosprayers in Smash Hit. (wow thats a mouthful and confusing). As seen on the site, the kanji for their names are the same kanji as the names of the actresses of Cosprayers in Smash Hit (Yagami Natsumi for Koto, etc. etc.)

I can just imagine the production meeting at M.O.E. when they decided on this:

Producer #1: We should do a hero show with cute girls!
Producer #2: We should do a show about tv producing with cute girls!
Producer #3: We should do a romantic school drama with cute girls!
Executive: What about ALL THREE?
Producer 1,2,3: Brilliant!
